Two Installments
Property tax bills may be paid in one
or two installments. If paying in two
installments is difficult, the County of
Monterey’s Treasurer-Tax Collector has
authorized Easy Smart Pay, a third-party
vendor, to provide a monthly payment
option for the payment of secure property
taxes. Interested property owners can
work directly with Easy Smart Pay to set
up payments via ACH or credit card.

Service: Wastewater
Monterey One Water is the public wastewater utility serving more than 285,000 residents and almost 7,000 businesses throughout northern Monterey County. Each day, our team conveys and treats approximately 17 million gallons of wastewater and safely reintroduces it into the environment. In addition to wastewater service, Monterey One Water also produces recycled water for agricultural irrigation and groundwater replenishment – both funded through the sale of recycled water.

Billing Change
Effective July 1, 2024, customers will no longer receive a bill for wastewater service directly from Monterey One Water. The bill will be replaced by an annual fee included as a direct charge on the parcel’s property tax bill.

WHO: This change applies to all customers and will not impact service.

WHAT: This change impacts when and how you receive your wastewater service bill. It is not a tax on your property and does not impact the current rate schedule for wastewater service. Future rates will continue to be set by the Monterey One Water Board of Directors through a transparent process in accordance with California law.

The current rate schedule is available on our “Billing Change” webpage.

WHEN: Customers will be billed by Monterey One Water for sewer service through June 30, 2024. No bill will be sent until the County of Monterey mails property tax bills in mid-October and the annual wastewater fee will be included as a direct charge.

WHY: In researching new billing vendors to improve the customer experience, it was discovered many public sewer agencies use their counties’ property tax rolls to bill for their mandated service. Staff assessed and discovered this change would yield more payment options and cost savings. Savings from the change will support rising operational costs and aging infrastructure to help offset future rate increases. 59,278

BILLING CHANGE
