RESOLUTION NO. (N.C.S.)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF SALINAS TO SIGN A LETTER OF SUPPORT OF CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL 48 (GONZALEZ) WHEREAS, Senate Bill 48, as introduced by Senator Gonzalez, establishes protocols regarding entry by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) into school sites requiring that any such entry be predicated on the presentation of valid identification, a written statement of purpose, and a valid judicial warrant, along with prior approval from designated educational officials; and WHEREAS, the City of Salinas recognizes the importance of preserving the confidentiality, privacy, and safety of students, children, and their families by ensuring that educational and child care facilities remain secure and free from unauthorized enforcement actions; and WHEREAS, the City of Salinas supports policies that promote safe, inclusive, and transparent practices in its schools and childcare centers, reinforcing the community’s commitment to protecting the rights of all its residents; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the text and intent of Senate Bill 48 and finds that its provisions are consistent with the values and interests of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to formally express its support for Senate Bill 48 by approving the attached letter of support as an official statement of endorsement; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of Salinas hereby approves the attached letter of support for California Senate Bill 48 (as introduced by Senator Gonzalez), pertaining to entry requirements for immigration enforcement at school sites and authorizes the Mayor of Salinas to sign the letter on behalf of the City of Salinas; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the City Council directs the City Manager to forward copies of this Resolution and the attached letter of support to Senator Gonzalez, the California State Senate, and other relevant parties.
