CalRecycle administers various grants and payment programs in an effort to reduce, recycle, and reuse solid waste generated in the state. On September 12, 2024, City staff applied to CalRecycle’s Rubberized Pavement Grant Program. The program goal is to decrease the adverse environmental impacts created by unlawful disposal and stockpiling of waste rubber tires by reimbursing local agencies to incorporate rubberized asphalt concrete in paving projects.
Rubberized asphalt concrete is a proven road paving material that is created by blending ground rubber from tires with asphalt binder and other conventional aggregate materials. Rubberized asphalt concrete is a durable material that helps reduce vehicle roadway noise.
On December 11, 2024, CalRecycle approved funding for the City in the amount of $250,000. The grant funds will be used to provide financial assistance for the upcoming 2025 Pavement Improvement Project which will include all the streets from year 1 of the 5-year pavement preservation street list Resolution No. 23031.
City staff recommends approving a resolution to accept the CalRecycle funds in the amount of $250,000; Increase the estimated revenue from State Government appropriation by $250,000; and Increase funding for CIP 9981 Pavement Maintenance (CIP 5800.50.9981).
