DISCUSSION:

The purpose of this item is to solicit input from the Housing and Land Use Committee (HLUC) regarding the types of updates or informational presentations that would be beneficial in support of the Committee’s ongoing work. The intent is to ensure that future staff reports and agenda items are responsive to the Committee’s priorities and provide timely, relevant, and actionable content.

Background
The HLUC plays a critical role in shaping housing and land use policy within the City of Salinas. As the Committee continues to address complex issues such as housing affordability, zoning reform, development feasibility, and regional planning coordination, staff seeks to enhance the quality and relevance of materials presented for Committee review and discussion.

To that end, staff is requesting feedback on the type of updates or informational presentations and format the Committee would like to see to support the Committee’s priorities. For illustrative purposes here are some examples:

Legislative updates on State and Federal housing laws and funding programs Local and regional housing production data, including RHNA progress and pipeline tracking Case studies from peer jurisdictions or regional partners HLUC input will guide staff in preparing materials that are aligned with the Committee’s strategic interests and decision-making needs.

Next Steps
Based on Committee input, staff will develop a proposed schedule of informational items and presentations for upcoming meetings. Where appropriate, staff may also coordinate with external agencies, consultants, or subject matter experts to support these efforts.
