RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF OR PARTICIPATION IN A FISCAL YEAR 2025 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT REGIONAL APPLICATION FOR SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS (SCBAs) WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency administers the Fiscal Year 2025 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, including Regional Projects that allow multiple fire agencies to address shared equipment needs; and WHEREAS, the Salinas Fire Department seeks to submit or participate in a regional application with Monterey County partner agencies to replace self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs), which are essential respiratory protection devices used during fires, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and other immediately dangerous to life and health environments; and WHEREAS, the Department's SCBA equipment is expiring in two years, replacement costs are significant, and regional grant funding would support firefighter safety, compliance, interoperability, and operational readiness; and WHEREAS, quotes are still being finalized and the City seeks authorization to apply up to the applicable AFG Regional maximum award, anticipated at up to $2,000,000 in federal funds, plus the required 10% local cost share.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Salinas City Council authorizes the Fire Department to submit or participate in a Fiscal Year 2025 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Regional application for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs).
