A RESOLUTION OF THE SALINAS CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE COVENTRY STREET NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC

CALMING PLAN SUPPORTED BY RESIDENTS FOR IMPLEMENTATION

WHEREAS, the City Council adopted the City’s Traffic Calming Policy at its October 6, 2009 meeting (Resolution No. 19764) which outlined a process for consideration of traffic calming requests from the community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted a resolution approving the prioritization strategy for Traffic Calming requests on its November 7, 2017 meeting (Resolution No. 21291) with the support of the Traffic and Transportation Commission; and WHEREAS, at its June 13, 2023 meeting, City Council approved the 202 3-2024 fiscal year neighborhood traffic calming project prioritization list (Resolution No. 22696), whereas Coventry Street ranked the third highest priority as requested by the Traffic and Transportation Commission; and
WHEREAS, staff worked with residents of Coventry Street to develop a traffic calming plan, and distribute ballots to help determine neighborhood support of the plan. As required by the City’s policy, a vote was conducted to gauge community support, and the Coventry Street traffic calming plan received the support votes required as prescribed by the City’s policy; and WHEREAS, the Traffic and Transportation Commission at its March 14, 2024 meeting voted (3-2) on an alternative motion to recommend approval of the implementation of the Coventry Street Neighborhood Traffic Calming Plan supported by residents and re-adding language about traffic enforcement to staff report; and
