City Manager's Comments
This item is intended to allocate $23,750 in donations to the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Budget.

Executive Summary
The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department hosted the third annual Lunar New Year Celebration on February 21, 2026, to promote cultural diversity and foster community engagement. The event continues to demonstrate strong community participation and support.

Sponsorships totaling $23,750 were secured to fully offset event-related costs.

Approval of this budget amendment will allow the Department to recognize the sponsorship revenue and appropriate the corresponding expenditures within the FY 2025/2026 budget.

Background
The Lunar New Year event is a cultural initiative established to celebrate diversity and strengthen community engagement within the City. The 2026 event marked the third consecutive year the City has hosted this celebration. The event was held on February 21, 2026, at Court Street Square and attracted an estimated attendance of over 5,000 participants.

To ensure the event did not impact the General Fund, staff actively solicited sponsorships from local businesses and community partners. As a result of these efforts, $23,750 in sponsorship funding was secured to fully offset event-related costs.

The sustained attendance growth and continued sponsorship support demonstrate the community’s positive reception of the event and its value as part of the City’s cultural programming efforts.

Discussion
The event budget included costs associated with entertainment, equipment rentals, staging, supplies, and other logistical needs necessary to successfully host the Lunar New Year celebration.

A total of $23,750 in sponsorship funding was received, which substantially offset the overall event costs and ensured that the event was delivered without impact to the General Fund. Sponsorship funds were deposited into the appropriate revenue account and expended under the Parks, Recreation and Community Services program code in accordance with established financial procedures.

Any remaining sponsorship funds following final reconciliation of event expenses will be retained and designated to support future cultural programming initiatives within the Department.
2021-2025 Strategic Targets and Goals
This initiative supports the City’s Strategic Goal No. 2 Focused, Aligned Leadership and Unified Community by promoting cultural awareness and inclusive community events.

Fiscal Impact
There is no additional impact to the General Fund. Both revenues and expenses will be increased by $23,750 to reflect sponsorship contributions.

Conclusion
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Council of the City of San Bernardino, California, adopt Resolution No. 2026-027 authorizing the City Manager and Director of Finance to amend the FY 2025/2026 Parks, Recreation and Community Services budget by allocating $23,750 in revenue and expenditures for the Lunar New Year event, and to ensure sufficient funds are placed in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services budget for event-related expenses.
