Discussion
On August 1, 2018, the City and Best Best & Krieger LLP (“BB&K”) entered into an Agreement for Municipal Legal Services and City Attorney Services (“Agreement”).

Under the Agreement, BB&K provides the City with municipal and specialty legal advice on a range of matters and handles a number of litigation cases. On June 19, 2019 the City and BB&K amended the Agreement for the purpose of establishing a reduced rate for as-needed code enforcement legal services and City Prosecutor services.

The City and BB&K desire to memorialize the Mayor and City Council’s decision on July 15, 2026 to appoint Albert J. Maldonado of BB&K as City Attorney. This proposed amendment replaces the names on the contract to Albert J. Maldonado as City Attorney and Andrew Saghian and Elleasse Taylor as Assistant City Attorneys.

Strategic Goals and Priorities
The proposed amendment aligns with Goal No. 1(a): Establish clear policy direction and predictable organization structures as it provides clarity in the City Attorney position.
