Subject: Meeting feedback for council
Hi there city council members of San bruno ,

As a resident who grew up in the 70s and purchased my own home back in 94, I would like to voice opinion on meters and suggest some adjustments to them.

First of all, not quite sure why meters were not installed all the way in San bruno and just halfway on the El Camino? This seems odd ? With that said our concerns are 8 pm?????! Wow that is steep why are we not aligned with city’s around us and holidays?
All holidays should free as all ciƟes are and free aŌer 6 pm.

Most ciƟes ( Burlingame ) a very popular city to name one is free Sundays holidays and aŌer 6 pm! Also, can you please offer longer Ɵmes for people to park such as 3 hours as long as they are paying ? Why not? We used to fun down to Mexican produce store and the sandwich store for a few items which literally would take under 15 min .

Why must we pay full 30 minutes to do that? We do our best to avoid San Mateo ave which is sad I know but be realisƟc city council you are trying hard to get people to support business there but instead chasing away ! Do something before it’s really too late and these places close ! Once you make a change( hopefully for beƩer asap) let residences know by perhaps social media ways and maybe in a mailer . The longer you wait to fix the problem we will conƟnue to shop and eat elsewhere not worth it just like some others feel .

This is the Ɵme to shine San Bruno members on council let’s make our city good again … meters do not need to go away but adjust Ɵme lengths and Sundays holidays and aŌer 6 should be what people know .

Thank you for consideraƟon

Subject: PArking meters
Hi,
I was told to send an email if I couldn't make the meeting for the parking meters so here is what I have to say.

My feeling on the parking meters is they should all be the same time, charging the same and up until 6 and only M-Sa. You are driving away people from downtown when trying to make it better. THe poor businesses are the ones that are hurting from this. The parking lots and the streets should all be in sync 9-6 and M-Sa, or even 10-6. People keep saying this is how Burlingame is but we are not Burlingame and never will be Burlingame. We are a different type of city and a smaller type of city. These parking meters are more trouble than they are worth. Sometime they work, sometime they don't. One time I went to use one on San Mateo Ave and the card reader didn't work, the coins didn't work. I had to find one that was working. Ridiculous. Using the QR code many people don't know how to use it or may not have a phone to use it. Also I have heard scammers know how to get numbers off of the QR codes.

I hate to see the businesses that might have to close because of the parking meters. Again they should all be the same time, lots and on street, M-F and 9-6, or 10-6. Also do people that work at the businesses have to pay to park? IF so that is not right at all.

Thank you,
Michele Magni

Dear City Clerk,
Please add my letter below and also attached to the Comments for tonight's , November 12, 2024, special meeting. Also, please note that my letter was originally sent in April of 2024 and the ONLY person who had the courtesy to acknowledge receipt of my letter and actually respond was Tom Hamilton.

Dear San Bruno City Council Members,
I am writing tonight to express my deep disappointment with the new meter parking in our downtown area.

I have lived in San Bruno for over 30 years. I like to shop and eat in my downtown. I don’t spend hours “cruising the Avenue”—I usually pop in to the produce or meat market, or get a sandwich or a coffee, and to check out the little stores if I have time. I always use San Bruno Framing and recommend them to all my friends in SF and the Peninsula.

How disappointing it is to have to pay for parking. We wanted to eat at La Paloma tonight and found that we needed to pay the meter, even after 6pm. Most of our neighboring cities end their parking enforcement at 6pm and allow free parking on Sundays and holidays. I can also pay for portions of an hour—many times I only need 15 minutes or less. I can always find unmetered parking about 2 blocks from Burlingame Ave. I never have to pay for parking when I eat or shop in Millbrae.

To add injury to insult, the machine on San Mateo Avenue would not allow me to pay using coins—it kept spitting them out. There is no slot for a dollar bill. I do not have a “smartphone” or any type of payment plan on my phone. My only option was to use a credit card. By the time I inserted my license plate number (heaven forbid I mis-typed my license plate!) and fumbled for coins, then my credit card, I had to start all over again. Does this sound like someone who is not frazzled before their dining experience downtown? I don’t think so. It was totally frustrating. My husband was so disgusted, he said, that’s it! We’re eating in Millbrae or anywhere else but San Bruno. He also vowed to not vote for anyone who is currently on the City Council. I agree with my husband. It appears that choices are being made that are not in the best interest of the tax-paying citizens of San Bruno.

2 I’m not sure what the original problem with parking on San Mateo Avenue was—parking all day? Illegal parking? Whatever the issue, it seems like it would have been easier to create enforcement for those people who were doing something wrong rather than charging the people who actually want to shop local.

I urge you to please reconsider charging for parking in the downtown area. Instead of making our city friendly and welcoming to shoppers and diners, your actions have had the exact opposite effect. You are driving away the people that are needed to keep our downtown vital and thriving.

Thank you for your consideration and prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
MaryJane Shabalin

Dear City Manager,

Attached please find a letter to:

Mayor Rico E Medina
Vice Mayor Tom Hamilton
Councilmember Sandy Alvarez
Councilmember Marty Medina
Councilmember Michael Salazar

Please confirm receipt of this email.

Also, why is there no written email address for each member on the official website-- only a link that I was
unable to access? It would be helpful to see the address listed so that I could cut and paste instead of having to log in to an email account (which I could not successfully accomplish). I was unable to send to Sandy Alvarez--her address was not listed so that I could cut and paste into an email. Please forward the letter to her.

Thank you,
MaryJane Shabalin

Subject: Parking in San Bruno
Good afternoon.

I can’t come to meeting tonight but am concerned about the paid parking situation. 1) No where on the Peninsula do meters go after 6 pm.
2) Sundays are usually free parking on the Peninsula which would be good for restaurants. 3) Parking on El Camino? Why. Thought it was owned by Cal Trans.

I think merchants are suffering because no one wants to pay for parking.

We have friends who have asked where to eat close to
the airport. When we tell them they have to pay for
parking downtown they go elsewhere. Kiosks are too confusing for them. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

Glad to see green zone in front of Grand Leader Deli.

Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion.

Rachael Higgins.

I wish to give my opinion on the metered parking in our Downtown of San Bruno. People are avoiding shopping in our downtown : for several reasons: expensive parking fee( more than Burlingame), meter readers constantly breathing down the meter area( maybe issue a Warning noƟce : 1 st Ɵme offenders & thirdly the late hours which effect diners:
stop at 6 pm M-Friday & Never on a Sunday. Saturday Ɵl 5 or 6 pm. This may bring revenue but lots of ill feelings!!!!Jeanie Munich ( Home Owner @ . I was at a clas which started @ 7 pm & ended aŌer 9 pm, & I realized we could make public comment via email to City Clerk Sent from my iPhone
