There needs to be a setback requirement where high density housing projects are adjacent to low density housing parcels just as there is a requirement for frontal setbacks.

Subject: San Bruno City Council E-Comment 7/22/25: Standing United Against the Administration Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2025 4:27:02 PM
Good evening Council-member Alvarez, Hamilton, Salazar, Vice Mayor Medina, and Mayor Medina, Hello, my name is Lorraine Yin. I’m writing to you all not just as a citizen, but as a person who has the need for justice and truth — the needs that are inherent to every human. In this tumultuous moment of political corruption, silence is complicity. The Trump administration has crossed lines that threaten the very fabric of our freedom, and it is the duty of every single human being to stand together and push back.
Since returning to office, Trump has invoked sweeping unconstitutional actions. His administration has revoked birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents, defied federal court orders on immigration, suspended billions in congressionally approved education funding. He’s fired independent agency officials without cause, targeted Hispanic and Asian populations, declared war independent of Congress, and has issued mass pardons for the January 6 rioters. His party rewards those who agree with his policies and criminalizes those who do not through the totalitarian dismantling of the checks and balances that protect our very democracy.
The actions of the administration are not just unconstitutional, they’re inhumane. “We the people”: these three words began the story of the United States, yet these three words no longer refer to America today. Students denied access to education. Millions removed from Medicaid. Citizens detained without due process. Behind every policy is a human story, behind every injustice is a human who deserves dignity, compassion, and protection. America dives deeper into debt, millions of American people live below the poverty line, all while money is continuously filed into the hands of the top 1%. It is no longer “We the People”, it’s “We the Rich”, it’s “We the Powerful”, it's “We the Trump Administration”.
The responsibility of the city government is to uphold the rights, dignity, and well-being of its residents. When democracy, the core of American politics, is endangered, it becomes the city’s responsibility to lead in its defense. Thus, I believe that it is the duty of the City Council to publicly reaffirm its commitment to constitutional rights and humane values. I respectfully urge the City Council to issue a formal statement in the form of proclamations, resolutions, or ordinances, endorse local community activism, and utilize the very platforms that the community has provided as catalysts for change. Additionally, a sign on letter for elected officials has been created that has already been signed by Councilmember Coleman and Mayor Flores of South San Francisco.
We encourage the San Bruno council to do so as well. We will continue to seek accountability, transparency, and activism from our city institutions.
Thank you,
Lorraine Yin

Subject: Full Support for Downtown Beautification Project – San Mateo Avenue Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2025 7:38:48 PM
Dear Councilmembers and City Staff,
I’m writing to express my full support for the upcoming downtown beautification project, especially the improvement of the pots along San Mateo Avenue.
As a business owner on the Avenue and a member of the President of the San Bruno Improvement Group, this is something I care deeply about. For many of us, this street is our front yard. It’s what our customers see when they visit, and it’s a reflection of who we are as a city. When the space is clean, colorful, and inviting, it sets the tone for a positive experience and encourages people to stay, shop, and return.
I also want to take a moment to recognize and thank Nancy Foreman, Gus Pollek, Claudia & Sean Quinn, and their entire renegades team who have worked so hard over the years to maintain these pots and keep our downtown looking its best. Their dedication has not gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for all they’ve done with the resources available to them.
We would be thrilled to see this project move forward and fully support its implementation.
We also hope this is just the beginning.
Small enhancements like benches in the future would help create more welcoming and functional public spaces where residents and visitors can slow down and truly enjoy San Mateo Avenue.
Thank you for your continued efforts and for considering this important project. We’re excited to see the positive changes ahead.
