Good evening Councilmembers,
Tonight's Tanforan agenda item brings a renewed opportunity to support our local public schools...not in safety videos with the SBPD and San Bruno Park School District Board members, not through free attendance at our SBPSD events, and not through words sharing support for our schools with no monetary commitments...but a real...authentic...and genuine opportunity to help where it matters.
As you are aware through your own recent meetings, and neighboring cities such as San Carlos as an example, Councilmembers who support their public schools direct staff to negotiate agreements wherein funds from developments are provided to public schools. With over 95 million dollars going through your Council ("your" being Rico Medina, Salazar, Alvarez, Hamilton, and Marty Medina) over the last 3-4 years it is unclear where these funds have gone but one thing is clear...none has gone to our local public schools.
Our kids deserve a piece of this massive economic opportunity. For context, our single school on the East Side continues to score 1-2 out of 10 with neighboring houses costing over $1 million dollars. Your support is needed if we, as a City, want our schools to be high performing.
Lastly, please remember that your vote to contribute to our local public schools speaks volumes about what you think of our public schools in contrast to your Facebook posts on the San Bruno Park School District's Parents Page, your attendance at public school events with photo opportunities, and your words supporting our schools...of which all are empty without action.
Best regards,
Linda M.
