SAN BRUNO CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING
October 14, 2025

Public Comment(s)

October 13, 2025

City of San Bruno Mayor and Council Members

RE: San Bruno BART Liaison Introduction and Support for 10/14/25 Agenda Items h & m

Dear Hon. Mayor Rico Medina and Council Members:

I want to introduce myself as the elected Director of BART District 4 since 2010. I am proud to now also serve as the liaison to San Bruno BART Station and passengers. Following my request to re-establish BART Board liaisons to the San Mateo Co Stations, President Foley and the Board adopted assignments on October 9, 2025.

In anticipation of my liaison to San Bruno Station, I have made several recent visits to this beautiful station where we recently celebrated the completion of the Next Generation Fare Gates with many leaders from San Mateo County. The station also features the beloved Tanforan Memorial Japanese Assembly Center exhibits that I worked to deliver.

I take my liaison role seriously and have made a checklist of station improvements and maintenance requests that I shared with our General Manager, Bob Powers. On this past Sunday it was a pleasure to observe work underway on my suggested lighting improvements in the elevators.

Support for Consent Calendar Item h. I am excited by the reconfiguration of Huntington Avenue to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to San Bruno BART and the nearby San Bruno Caltrain Station. Huntington Ave connects both stations and features a new separated two-way bikeway (Segment 1) leading to/from the Caltrain platform. I am pleased that the City Council is proposing to close the existing gap between BART and Caltrain with the implementation of Segment 2. Please work with the bicycling community to ensure the design will provide a continuous safe connection from both San Bruno Stations to the Centennial Way trail all the way to South San Francisco BART.

A good problem from this progress is that the Centennial Way map at the new intersection of the trail with Huntington Avenue will need to be updated to show this reconfiguration and connection to Sneath Lane featuring a Class II bikeway that continues to the Regional Trails along Skyline Boulevard.

Support for Consent Calendar Item m. Under the guiding principles of the Grand Boulevard Initiative is #9: “To strengthen the pedestrian and bicycle connections to the corridor.” My wife and I recently bicycled on Sneath Lane from San Bruno BART to Skyline.

The extremely poor pavement condition on El Camino Real at Sneath Lane is unsafe and out-of-character with the quality of the bikeway between Centennial Way and the Golden Gate National Cemetery entrance. Together we must urge Caltrans to repave and address safe pedestrian and bicycle crossings of El Camino Real.

I look forward to working with you on the above projects, as well as welcoming new businesses and residents in the San Bruno BART station area.

Sincerely,

-Robert Raburn, PhD
