6. Please explain why you would like to serve on the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Commission. want to give back to the city where I reside. I want to contribute to the maintenance and preservation of the peaches by learning and working with experts on sand replenishment and other coastal issues. I want to ensure our beautiful parks are protected for families to enjoy and new parks are built to serve the needs of Pur community. I want to continue to see our recreation activities serve the kids, teens and seniors.
Please explain how your background and experience would contribute to the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Commission.
My degree is in Public Administration and I am the retired Director of the USC Alzheimer's Center. I have pver 20 years experience as a youth coach and served as a committee member on several non-profit brganizations. On July 2021, I was appointed to Beaches, Parks and Recreation in the City of San Clemente. I was appointed to the Coastal Commission advisory sub-committee and appointed to work on he Youth Sports Partnership committee. In addition, I was also part of Supervisor Lisa Bartlett's Coastal Resilience Strategic Planning committee. All of this experience has lead me to be better informed and more 1Jseful in participating and making recommendations that will be beneficial for San Clemente.
Please explain any expertise that you may have in the area of ocean water quality and/or beach environmental stewardship.
Serving on the Coastal Commission sub-committee has been enlightening. There is not one possible solution o solve beach erosion. Sea level rise is continuing. Seawalls may add to sand erosion. That the issue with sea level rise might not be the problem as much as the lack of sediment delivery. We need to explore how to 'hold" the sand on the beaches. Collaborating with other cities might be helpful. I continue to learn more and :::iffer suggestions that might be presented to City Council.

Please explain any experience that you have in community, governmental, charitable or educational affairs.
Currently I'm a commissioner on BPRC for San Clemente. I am a member at Casa Romantica and enjoy ~heir social activities. I am a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club and help the community as needed. I am a supporter of Pier Pride. I am also a member at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point. I participate in the annual Shamrock 5K. I enjoy the art faire, farmer's market, summer concerts and so much more.
The Beaches, Parks and Recreation Commission meets on the second Tuesday in February, April, June, August, October and December at 6:00 pm. Please explain any challenges, if any, you may have in meeting this commitment.
I will be available to attend all meetings.
10. Please describe your views on the quality of City beaches and parks, including any steps you feel should be taken for improvement.
I believe the city is doing its best to provide safe and clean beaches. Beaches look clean. Bathrooms are maintained however there is sometimes vandalism. Not sure if installing security cameras would be helpful. I would like to see more standard water sample reports that are released to the public. We have been trying o get refillable water stations installed and it is taking too long. The parks are being maintained. 5 parks are ~nder the process of being upgraded with playground equipment. I would like to see more lights installed to ncrease the safety and perhaps use some fields at night. Parking on public streets has been an issue at isome parks, but I do not think the city can do much to alleviate that problem. We are a dog friendly city and only have one dog park. Perhaps another dog park would be feasible. E-bikes will always be a concern. We have rules but not the man power to enforce them. Maybe a volunteer program could be organized to help with this issue.

am retired. I want to stay active and involved in the city. The best way to do that is to serve as a "'ommissioner and work with others as needed. San Clemente became my home in 2021, after a very ~ifficult period in my life. I immediately fell in love with the pier, the beach and the community. Ole Hanson might actually be a distant cousin of mine. He comes from a place in Wisconsin and Norway where my great Jreat Uncle Ole Hanson is from. I am willing to serve to the best of my ability always.
