Dear Council Members,
I hope you have all had a chance to see the Miramar Theater since the fence came down in November. It looks fantastic. Especially at night, with the lighting of the building and views into the patio courtyard, amazing! Unfortunately, the Planning Commission approved a second batch of alterations from the project plan from 2017. On December 17 they approved the infill of two sections of the wall that surrounds the patio courtyard to the left of the historic marquee entrance. Those two sections currently have wrought iron railing which softens the look of the wall and provides a very pleasant view into the courtyard.
I understand that Wedgewood wants total privacy, but those two opening had planters approved that would have provided privacy while still providing peek-a-boo views and wall softening.
Wedgewood is just greedy. They have pushed us to eliminate aesthetic features to increase the already generous square footage provided in the patio courtyard.
Should we be helping them to create a 300 plus-person wedding venue instead of a 200 person venue as the approved plan would have done? And do this by sacrificing the appearance and historic integrity of the Miramar? Please look at that wall and imagine how much less attractive the project will look with a solid blank wall.
Final approval of the project is contingent on your passage of the PC minutes, so please take this opportunity to prevent an ugly mistake that will not be reversible.
Thank you
Larry Culbertson
