Dear San Clemente City board members and whom this email may concern, I am emailing in support of revoking or requirements to any special use permit of the Cars and Coffee event held at the San Clemente Outlets or requiring this recurring event to have proper over site and security measures.
As someone who lives off La Pata, this street has become a Sunday raceway for cars specifically attending and leaving this event. There have been reports of issues on the freeway but we have them on La Pata as well.
You may ask how I know,… well it’s because my family and 5 of my young children were passed on the left and on the right side (Cars were passing also in the bike lane) while our vehicle was going up the hill on La Pata before Stallion Ridge by a group of 10 cars who were racing in their vehicles. Probably going over 10mph as we were traveling at 55 mph. We were heading to the outlets and saw the exact same car group pulling into the parking lot.
Not wanting to have a conflict in front of my children I avoided saying anything to this car gang.
This isn’t the only observation we have witnessed of “bad or illegal behavior” tied to this event and I am only 1 person sending an email.
Living off La Pata, every Sunday we hear cars racing up and down this street. Police are too busy to traffic it even after complaints to the non emergency line. This events affects members of others who don’t reside in San Clemente and the events continues to bring bad behavior that will have tragic consequences if there is an accident.
Please send these cars to somewhere else like a raceway or fairgrounds to showcase their vehicles and drink a coffee.
We don’t need it in the tiny community of San Clemente and effecting the surrounding communities every single week.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
