Subject: Support for Assembly Bill 1569 – Electric Bicycle Safety Training for Pupils
Dear Assemblymember Davies:
On behalf of the City Council of the City of San Clemente, I am writing to express our support for California Assembly Bill 1569, which promotes electric bicycle safety education for students.
Electric bicycles have become an increasingly popular transportation option for young people traveling to and from school. While e-bikes provide an affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to commute, their increased speed and growing use among youth highlight the need for proper safety education. By encouraging safety training for students who ride e-bikes, AB 1569 helps ensure that young riders understand traffic laws, safe riding practices, and the importance of responsible operation.
Providing students with the knowledge and skills to operate e-bikes safely will help reduce the risk of collisions, improve safety around school campuses, and foster responsible micromobility habits at an early age. Education-based approaches are an effective way to address safety concerns while still supporting sustainable transportation options for students and families.
The City of San Clemente supports efforts that enhance roadway safety, protect our youth, and encourage environmentally responsible transportation. AB 1569 represents a balanced and proactive approach to addressing the growing presence of e-bikes in our communities.
For these reasons, the City Council of San Clemente respectfully supports California Assembly Bill 1569 and encourages your colleagues in the Legislature to vote in favor of this important measure.
