Mayor, Council, City Attorney, Independent Budget Analyst, City Clerk Comment:
CC-1: Councilmember von Wilpert thanked Mayor Gloria and his team for working to lobby for changes to CARE Court up in Sacramento. She stated it’s been an incredible progression to see San Diego County being one of the first counties in the state to adopt the CARE Court process.
Councilmember von Wilpert mentioned the county has adopted a voluntary stance requiring people with addiction or schizophrenia to voluntarily consent to treatment. She noted it’s not helping those who call 911 repeatedly for help because we’re not providing the conservatorships needed.
CC-2: Councilmember Elo-Rivera addressed that our Federal government is burning democracy down. He expressed we have the open defiance of court orders, the calling for impeachments of judges who issue orders that are not in direct alignment with the Trump administration’s illegal activities, the elimination of the Office of Environmental Justice, and the elimination of the agency that oversees homelessness response. Councilmember Elo-Rivera affirmed the action of this administration are posing a direct threat to the residents of San Diego and to the values that we uphold here as a City. He hopes we can maintain the level of vigilance that we need to ensure that San Diego residents are not impacted in the way that the Trump administration is hoping to harm our residents.
City Clerk Fuentes applauded staff for their efforts in processing 163 passport applications and bringing in $7,000 in revenue at the San Ysidro pop up last Friday. She mentioned there will be 2 more passport pop ups before the end of the fiscal year at: Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Library on April 4, 2025, and at Point Loma/Hervey Library on May 16, 2025, with both events being held from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with walk-ins from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. City Clerk Fuentes reminded everyone that we also do walk-ins at City Hall on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
