Mayor, Council, City Attorney, Independent Budget Analyst, City Clerk Comment:
CC-1: Councilmember Campillo addressed the Supreme Court ruling which betrayed the Constitution’s most basic promise that every person is judged by their actions not their appearance. He stated that the Trump Administration has allowed Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Federal agents to enforce immigration laws by approving and legalizing profiling. Councilmember Campillo touched upon multiple factors which included: the 4th Amendment, suspicion, discrimination, stereotypes, burden of proof, funds affiliated to detaining immigrants, and common sense. He expressed that the Government has instilled fear in many neighborhoods. Councilmember Campillo avowed that no group of Americans should have to live that way and affirmed this is not liberty.
CC-2: Councilmember Elo-Rivera thanked Councilmember Campillo for his comments. He noted the Supreme Court yesterday legalized racial profiling and racism. Councilmember Elo-Rivera commented on Trump's dream for dictatorship, Supreme Court abandoning responsibilities, and Congress' disinterest. He expressed disappointment and frustration.
CC-3: Councilmember Whitburn commended Councilmember Campillo for the way he articulated his comments. He mentioned when you consider the alarming impacts that the ruling has and what it could portend. Councilmember Whitburn stated it is frightening what is going on in our Country and we will all need to work together to correct the course.
CC-4: Council President LaCava commended Councilmember Campillo for a very detailed response. He expressed this is a military take over against the citizens and residents of this Country. Council President LaCava stated that this kind of activity by this President is a dark vision.
