Mayor, Council, City Attorney, Independent Budget Analyst, City Clerk Comment:
CC-1: Councilmember von Wilpert commented that over the weekend in Jackson, Mississippi, the only synagogue was burned by a self-proclaimed white supremacist. She said the community is devastated, luckily no one was hurt. Councilmember von Wilpert stated the silver lining is nearly every other faith community has offered them space. She noted hate continues to permeate our communities, and we must stand up against it. Councilmember von Wilpert addressed the shooting and killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis. She stated this horrific incident was a result of the escalation of Trump’s direction of ICE agents. Councilmember von Wilpert mentioned we’ve seen this escalation on our city streets, where ICE causes havoc. She said ICE agents use battering rams to enter homes, actions our police cannot do without a warrant under the Fourth Amendment. Councilmember von Wilpert expressed her heart goes out to the people of Minneapolis, and didn’t want this to go unnoticed.
