Mayor, Council, City Attorney, Independent Budget Analyst, City Clerk Comment:

CC-1: Council President LaCava honored City Clerk Diana Fuentes for 20 years of dedicated service to the City of San Diego. He mentioned Diana oversees council meetings, city-wide records, elections and campaign finance disclosures. Council President LaCava stated her public service spans two decades culminating in her historic appointment as the first Latina City Clerk. He acknowledged Diana is a champion of community engagement, transparency, and continuous improvements, and her leadership strengthens both our institutions and our connection to the public.

Council President LaCava recognized her deep commitment to her family and thanked her for the dedication, leadership and lasting impact on the City of San Diego.

Council President LaCava commented on the disturbing events at the National level.

He stated people have expressed their outrage, frustration, and concern with what’s next. Council President LaCava inquired on properly conducted investigations to understand the nature of the two recent shootings. He added lethal attacks on bystanders are not acceptable. Council President LaCava affirmed this is not who we are as Americans, and this is not what our constitution states.

Council President LaCava commented on folks who occupied the Mayor’s office expressing free speech and rightful protest last Friday. He stated this form of protest turned at the end of the day damaging property which caused the City to pivot because this provided a hazardous workplace for employees. Council President LaCava added the City will have to examine spending money to make the building more secure during this tight budget season. He mentioned this is unfortunate because this is a place where people come meet with their elected officials and departments. Council President LaCava concluded that San Diegans are not the problem, and we need to work together.

City Clerk Comment: City Clerk Fuentes thanked Council President LaCava for acknowledging her 20 years of service to the City of San Diego. City Clerk Fuentes also noted that there are digital kiosks in Chambers and in the 12th floor entrance that have the docket agenda with all the back-up material and will be replacing the paper binders in the back of the room. She mentioned not only will it be saving a lot of environmental papers but giving the public much more readily accessible, ADA compliant, and faster access to everything on the agenda website.

Report Out from Closed Session:

None.

Council President LaCava adjourned the meeting at 3:47 p.m.
