1. Discussion of Community Forest The Council discussed the possibility of Management increasing San Dimas's tree canopy from
9,200 to 10,000 trees. Proposals included
planting trees closer than the current 30-foot
minimum, comparing tree canopies with
neighboring cities, and allocating $20,000
annually for tree planting. The city received
$238,617 from the Gold Line Construction
Authority for tree maintenance. The council
debated the feasibility of planting trees on
Cypress Avenue and the cost of $9,263 per
tree, which includes the cost of concrete
repair. They also considered creating an
endowment fund to ensure long-term tree
maintenance and the potential for resident
tree sponsorships. At the conclusion of the
discussion Council provided the following
directions to staff:
• Continue researching endowment
models for funding the community
forest and report back to the City
Council on feasibility.
• Allocate $10,000 from the city's tree
replacement/planting budget to plant
additional trees, consistent with the
council's decision.
