OF EMERGENCY SERVICES CONCERNING THE EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY FOR THE JANUARY 2025 WIND AND FIRE EVENT
On January 7, 2025 and in the days following, the City of San Gabriel has been impacted by a destructive wind and fire event. The Fire Chief activated the San Gabriel Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on January 7 with Public Works, Police, Fire and Administrative duties coordinated from the EOC for the next two days. The EOC remains open at a stand-by level. Sustained high winds, including gusts of 80 – 100 miles per hour in some areas, and a conflagration of wildland fire caused catastrophic damage to the immediate area and City of San Gabriel. Infrastructure damage, fallen trees, smoke, fallout from fire ash and power outages have necessitated extensive emergency response and clean up across the City. Staff recommends ratification of the proclamation of a local emergency by the City Manager pursuant to Title III, Chapter 36, articles 36.05 and 36.06, with the adoption of Resolution No. 25-05.
Recommended Action:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 25-05 ratifying the proclamation of the Director of Emergency Services concerning the existence of a local emergency.
