4.3. 2022 City of San Jacinto Special Events Update
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council receive a report of the upcoming Citysponsored special events.
DISCUSSION:
In March 2020, California's Governor introduced and signed a Stay-At-Home Order for 30 days due to the increase of Covid-19 cases throughout the state. This prohibited large gatherings, such as special events and concerts, where more than ten individuals would be in attendance. While the Stay-At-Home Order was lifted in July 2020, large-scale events and concerts were still prohibited under the State's Public Health Order, requiring social distancing and face-covering protocols.
With the State's Public Healthy Order in place throughout 2020 & 2021, the City of San Jacinto canceled the Annual Independence Day Parade & Street Festival, the Kool August Nights Summer Concert Series, and the Annual State of the City.
On June 15, 2021, public health restrictions, mandates, bans, and color-coded tiers came to an end, allowing the state of California to open for business, including the return of large-scale events and concert venues. Unfortunately, the June 15 opening date did not allow staff to properly prepare for the City's large-scale events.
City staff plans to return to a full pre-COVID19 special event calendar that includes the Annual Independence Day Parade & Street Festival on Monday, July 4, 2022, and the Kool August Nights Summer Concert Series (Wednesday nights in August), and the Annual State of the City.
As the City Council has requested an update on special events, Tara Magner, Economic Development & Special Projects Administrator, will be providing a report to the City Council on the calendar of events and detailing each event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is minimal fiscal impact for the remainder of the FY2021-2022, as these events will be budgeted for in the upcoming FY2022/2023 budget.
Department: Economic Development
