Of The City of San Jacinto
Mental Health Awareness Month
WHEREAS, mental illness affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds, employment statuses, education levels, and income levels, and is especially prevalent among youth and seniors; and
WHEREAS, Mental Health America established “Mental Health Month” in 1949 to raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health; and WHEREAS, mental health challenges are among the most common health conditions in California, affecting one in seven adults and significantly impacting both those experiencing these challenges and their loved ones; and WHEREAS, many Californians living with serious mental illness face significant challenges in daily life and, if left untreated, may experience reduced life expectancy; and
WHEREAS, the stigma surrounding mental health often isolates those facing challenges and causes delays in seeking help; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 Mental Health Awareness Month theme, “More Good Days, Together,” highlights the importance of connection, support, and improving mental well-being for all; and
WHEREAS, recovery is possible, and fostering a community where individuals feel empowered to seek support is essential to reducing stigma and promoting mental wellness; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Jacinto is committed to enhancing public awareness of mental health;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of San Jacinto hereby recognizes May 2026 as "Mental Health Awareness Month" in an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
