Dear Mayor and City Council,
As a life long resident of San Jose, I care deeply about my neighbors. I consider the kids of the Washington community my neighbors. Project:Activate is important for the well-being of families that so often receive the short end of the stick due to financial resources. This is a pretty simple request. The positive impact this will have on these children's physical, and perhaps more importantly, mental health is immeasurable. Please help nourish the amazing work being done through Healing Grove by opening up these public spaces for the kids that need it most.

Thank you for your service to our beautiful community,
Ruth Hardin
Project:Activate is an initiative by Healing Grove Health Center to offer a sports program to low income children and youth in the Washington community. In order for this initiative to be successful, we need access to the public open spaces in our community: Tamien Park, the Washington Elementary turf field, and the Washington United Youth Center. I'm writing this letter on behalf of America Rodriguez, and I'm asking that you listen and respond to the request of this community. You can find a translated copy of the letter below, and view the original handwritten letter attached. You can learn more about the initiative at https://healinggrove.org/activate.

Dear Mayor Sam Licardo, Councillors of the City, and San Jose Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services, Director Jon Cicirelli,
My name is America Rodriguez and I am a San Jose City resident. I have two requests that need immediate attention.

The Tamien Park grass field needs to be restored in order for it to grow better. It is so dry. I request that city hall give the local community priority in order to make a park's reservation.

Some time ago I was going to walk to the park and I saw that the grass had been deteriorating. I have also seen that they do not give it proper maintenance and last Friday I noticed that there were bottles of liquor thrown on the benches.

I would like to see priority given to us community members to have access to the park, as many times other people outside of our area are given access. Thank you very much for your attention, God bless you.

Sincerely,
America Rodriguez

My name is Micah Mok. I am a high school senior, deeply involved with Healing Grove Health Center and their outreach in the Washington-Guadalupe neighborhood. Project:Activate is extremely timely.

My family and I play basketball, walk our dog, or bike daily at our nearby park; Tamien park should be a place for those of the Washington-Guadalupe neighborhood as well.

I'm writing this letter on behalf of Angela Barreas, and I'm asking that you listen and respond to the request of this community. You can find a transcribed copy of the letter below, and view the original handwritten letter attached. You can learn more about the initiative at https://healinggrove.org/activate.

RE: Tamien Park
I am a high schooler writing to encourage the City of San Jose to address two problems at Tamien Park:

1. The Tamien Park grass needs to be fixed

2. Change the Tamien Park reservation process so that people in our immediate area get priority for reservation.

Access to Tamien is important because children, including me, want to play sports; as soccer and have fun.

Sincerely,
Angela Barreas
Thank you for allowing me to forward this message,
Best,
Micah

Subject: Regarding Council meeting on 1/11/22 Item 2.15 21-2654 You don't often get email from Learn why this is important

2.15 21-2654 Recommendation:

Extension of AB 361 Implementation to Allow Teleconferenced Public Meetings to Continue through February 10, 2022 during the Governor’s Proclaimed COVID State of Emergency.

We fully support the City of San Jose Council meetings to be done virtually with one change.  We feel it is important to be able to see each of you Council members and the Mayor as you sit at your desks during each of the meetings just as we do when you are in the Council chamber.  You did it when you first began holding Council meetings virtually and you can do it now.  Transparency is the key factor in making this request and we are not the first ones to ask for this.

Thanking you all in advance of upcoming meetings.
