Hello,
I acknowledge and understand that the phase 1 plan of the Prototype Park at Guadalupe Gardens deferred any sort of roller skating space, though I am part of a larger community requesting that a roller skate plaza be considered in the plans for phases 2 and 3. As noted in the Memorandum, the Guadalupe Gardens survey garnered significant community interest in a roller skating space and therefore should be seriously considered as the project develops.
I support SJ Roll Call’s organized effort to advocate for a rollerskate park/plaza at Guadalupe Gardens because San Jose needs a safe, free place for the rollerskate community to come together.
I have been roller kating ince 2020 and I have benefitted from roller kating by having a rea on to get out of the house, thus improving my physical and mental health.
It i difficult to find a afe and welcoming place to roller kate becau e o many of the idewalk and treet in San Jose need repair or are under construction and it is difficult to find a continuous safe route for exercise. It is also very dangerous because of car traffic. I always use the crosswalk and traffic signals, but I have almost been hit many times by cars not paying attention or purposefully trying to get close or follow me.
I highly encourage the council to partner with SJ Roll Call to create a free, safe, and accessible roller skating space at Guadalupe Gardens, because roller skating is a great form of healthy exercise for all ages and it gives everyone the opportunity to get outside and appreciate the natural beauty of San Jose

Alyssa Sandore

Hi Council!
I acknowledge and understand that the phase 1 plan of the Prototype Park at Guadalupe Gardens deferred any ort of roller kating pace, though I am part of a larger community reque ting that a roller skate plaza be considered in the plans for phases 2 and 3. As noted in the Memorandum, the Guadalupe Garden urvey garnered ignificant community intere t in a roller kating pace and therefore should be seriously considered as the project develops.
I support SJ Roll Call’s organized effort to advocate for a roller skate plaza at Guadalupe Gardens.
Roller skating spaces can simultaneously serve at least 15 people per 1,000 square feet, making it one of the most efficient uses of public recreation space. We need a skate plaza to accommodate the hundreds to thousands of Bay Area skaters who are constantly searching for safe, smooth, shared space for family-fun.
I have been roller skating since 2020 and fell in love with the sport. It is addictive in the best way and has been an incredible stress reliever during the pandemic. I've been a part of several communities in my life - boarding school, university, dance teams, non-profit work, corporate work - but roller skating has been the most inclusive, effective community of them all.
Unfortunately it is difficult to find a safe and welcoming place to roller skate because there is no public investment.
I highly encourage the council to partner with SJ Roll Call to create a free, safe, and accessible roller kating pace at Guadalupe Garden , becau e our communitie will thrive a a re ult Sincerely,

Hello my name is Lucila Chavez.
This is regarding the plans for Guadalupe gardens location.
We as san jose roll call have proposed a plan to suggest that area to be a roller rink.
I acknowledge and understand .that the phase 1 of the prototype Guadalupe gardens deferred any sort of roller skating space though i am part of a larger community requesting that a roller skate plaza be considered in the plans for phases 2 and 3. As noted on the memorandum, the Guadalupe gardens survey garnered significant community interest in a roller skating space and therefore should seriously considered as the project develops.
I support SJ rollcall's organized effort to advocate for a roller skate park/plaza at Guadalupe Gardens because they have been holding safe spaces for us and have been there amplifying the communities voices. To the black lives matter movement, to stop asian hate, and other needed advocacy push.
I have been roller skating since I 18 and I have benefitted from roller skating by managing my mental health through the actions of roller skating. It has given me a routine and an exercise opportunity to be able to
It is difficult to find a safe and welcoming place to roller skate because other smooth places are dedicated to other sports and we get pushed aside when we are utilizing that space first. There are

I highly encourage the council to partner with SJ rollcall to create a free, safe and accessible roller skating space at Guadalupe Gardens because we have been advocating for a safe skate space for more than over a year by taking over city hall and using it as a roller rink. We were met with hostility by the security officers there and not once did any council official come and talk to us regarding the gathering. That space in itself is another prime example of space not being used at all. If we are to get pushed away from places not welcoming to roller skaters why not assist us in securing one as we are also the people from san jose who contribute to the economic growth of this city.
Sincerely

Hello,
I acknowledge and under tand that the pha e 1 plan of the Prototype Park at Guadalupe Garden deferred any sort of roller skating space, though I am part of a larger community requesting that a roller kate plaza be con idered in the plan for pha e 2 and 3 A noted in the Memorandum, the Guadalupe Gardens survey garnered significant community interest in a roller skating space and therefore should be seriously considered as the project develops.
I support SJ Roll Call’s organized effort to advocate for a rollerskate park/plaza at Guadalupe Gardens because roller skating needs a home in the Southbay and the Guadalupe Gardens has the potential to create not only a uniquely designed safe space for local rollerskakters but to be a great space for roller skaters world wide. Being next to amenities like a riverwalk, the airport, a large shopping center as well as being centrally located provides a good position for skating culture to take root and thrive I have been roller skating since 2014 and I have benefitted from roller skating by having a unique and supportive community to grow with especially during the pandemic. San Jose has few communities that allow all ages and lifestyles to actively participate and rollerskating is one of them. Its welcoming, supporting, and uplifting. It has kept me focused and has been a medicine for my mental illness.
Rollerskating has brought me to new goals that were never imagined for myself previous like being a DJ, creating my own dance moves, and participating in Social Justice efforts.
It i difficult to find a afe and welcoming place to roller kate becau e although it ha an e ten ive rollerskate history throughout the 1900s San Jose has never fully embraced Roller Skates as a form of permanent recreation, e erci e, or artform Mo t current kate pace are NOT de igned for roller skates so indesign they are not welcoming but also culturally many have developed toxic male dominated behavior creating barrier to new and vulnerable u er Right now, Roller kating ha been

San Jose was once remarked as the feminist capitol of the world so I'm confident we will collectively support this movement.
I highly encourage the council to partner with SJ Roll Call to create a free, safe, and accessible roller skating space at Guadalupe Gardens, because they have been involved with developing the roller skate culture for 8+ years. They have successfully demonstrated safe skate space at City Hall for 46 weeks in 2021. They have the patience and skill to help manage public space and have been creating cultural contributions to the city for many years. All the work they do is rooted in love for the city, its residents and the rollerskate community.

Re: 2/8/2022 Council Item 3.6 Guadalupe Gardens Fencing & Ac va on Alterna ves
Dear Honorable Mayor Liccardo, Members of the City Council, and City Clerk:
I have been living and working in downtown San Jose since 1977 and I’ve been a Guadalupe River Park user and supporter since then.
I submit this le er to support Staff’s Recommenda on regarding the report on Guadalupe Gardens Fencing & Ac va on Alterna ves: the Prototype Park Concept, Vehicle Preven on Project, and long-term programming and stewardship planning with the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy.
Addi onally, I support the Memorandum submi ed by Mayor Liccardo and Councilmembers Peralez, Cohen, and Mahan to ensure the $1.5 million iden fied in Staff’s Memo will be used to supplement the proposed ac va ons, rather than for a perimeter chain-link fence.
The Guadalupe Gardens Ac va on Project is an opportunity to catalyze the community engagement, design, and programming of an open space that can provide many public benefits to our city and region.
I acknowledge the current ac va on proposals reflect the pressing need to address FAA compliance of our airport with yet-to-be iden fied funding sources. I ask that addi onal support be provided to staff to ensure the public outreach, stakeholder engagement, and long-term implementa on planning needed for a roadmap to the full development of the Guadalupe Gardens.
I also recognize the current challenges and addi onal resources needed to providing housing and services to the unsheltered residents in the park by the June 30, 2022 compliance deadline, and we hope City Council and Staff come to a recommenda ons centered around

Re: 2/8/2022 Council Item 3.6 Guadalupe Gardens Fencing & Activation Alternatives
Dear Honorable Mayor Liccardo, Members of the City Council, and City Clerk,
We submit this letter to support Staff’s Recommendation regarding the report on Guadalupe Gardens Fencing & Activation Alternatives: the Prototype Park Concept, Vehicle Prevention Project, and long-term programming and stewardship planning with the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy. Additionally, we support the Memorandum submitted by Mayor Liccardo and Councilmembers Peralez, Cohen, and Mahan to ensure the $1.5 million identified in Staff’s Memo will be used to supplement the proposed activations, rather than for a perimeter chain-link fence.
The Guadalupe Gardens Activation Project is an opportunity catalyze the community engagement, design, and programming of an open space that can provide many public benefits to our City and region. We believe the opportunity of this Project shares several of our priorities:
• Safety
• Cleanliness
• Vibrancy
We acknowledge the current activation proposals reflect the pressing need to address FAA compliance of our airport with yet-to-be identified funding sources. We ask that additional support is provided to staff to ensure the public outreach, stakeholder engagement, and long-term implementation planning needed for a roadmap to the full development of the Guadalupe Gardens.
We also recognize the current challenges and additional resources needed to providing housing and services to the unsheltered residents in the park by the June 30, 2022 compliance deadline, and we hope City Council and Staff come to a recommendation centered around accelerated rehousing.
We have an opportunity to create a new park in our City that benefits to our residents. Given its place and time, this park can be a gateway to San Jose, increase connection to nature, recreation, and community wellness, and become a positive symbol of our City’s recovery.
