TO: RULES AND OPEN FROM: Councilmember, Pam Foley
GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE District 9
SUBJECT: Rainbow Chamber Membership DATE: February 2, 2022 Approved Date

RECOMMENDATION
Request approval for Council office funds to be used to purchase membership into the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Silicon Valley.

BACKGROUND
Under Council Policy 0-38, “Membership dues are not an authorized expenditure except for memberships in those governmental associations in which the City’s membership extends to its officials, such as the California League of Cities, the National League of Cities and the National Conference of Mayors, and committees, caucuses and constituent groups of those associations.” Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Silicon Valley membership dues does not fall within that group. Therefore, I am seeking council approval to expend these funds. Yearly dues cost $100.00.

Established in 1999 to give exposure to the LGBT business community, the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Silicon Valley is the largest not-for-profit corporation in greater Silicon Valley for LGBTQ+ businesses comprised of LGBTQ+ and LGBTQ+-supportive business owners and professionals.

With more than 100 members, the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Silicon Valley has continued to grow and develop member benefits to serve the needs of our dynamic membership. Led by a strong and visionary Board of Directors the Chamber has boldly transformed from a grass roots coalition into a polished, professional business association.

Currently, I am Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee and this membership is considered outreach to the business community and the LGBTQ+ community.
