WRT ROGC 22-094 by Sylvia Arenas I have the following public comment to be read into the record:

The Russian people do not want this war and are not our enemies. The Russian government no longer represents the will of its people who are actively protesting this war and are being arrested for their activism. The San Jose city council spending taxpayer money on these misguided activities reflects poorly on a city that consistently lacks funding for our crumbling infrastructure. Please focus on critical city needs and cease these self serving feel-good initiatives that accomplish nothing more than news headlines.

We have real work to do.

Re: the Memorandum on Active Support of the Ukrainian People and in Response to Russia's Criminal Aggression by Sylvia Arenas We at Nova Ukraine support each of the four proposals in this memorandum.

We would like to especially empahsize item 3 about taking an active position of support of Federal policies and item 4 about engaging with the local immigrant community. In particular, we are already seeing refugees arriving from Ukraine to the Bay area, and we know that some toursits overstayed their visas because they cannot return to Ukraine.

We formed a coordination team for legal help and are signing up immigration law firms that can provide services pro bono.

In summary, we applaud the efforts of councilmember Sylvia Arenas and would appreciate support extended by the City Council to the Ukrainian refugees and the Ukrainian community.
