21 YWCA Advocate Referrals
• The YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley and SAIU members have continued to improve the referral process—connecting more survivors to advocates. • Gaps in SAIU were identified and filled
• SAIU and YWCA personnel provided insight about workflows and the realities related to one another’s fields resulting in the increase in the number of survivors who receive advocacy.
• The YWCA created an online referral system, which aides in the rapid referral of survivors.

23 Advocacy Audit
• Six (6) recommendations directed the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit (SAIU), Family Violence Unit (FVU), and the Special Victims Unit (SVU). • Work undertaken by SAIU to implement the audit recommendations:

1. Modification of the Sexual Assault Resource Card;

2. Modification of the YWCA Advocate Referral Standard Operating Procedure;

3. Addition of Duty Manual Section L 6017 – ADVOCACY REFERALS;

4. Addition of Duty Manual Section L 6009.8 – NOTIFICATION OF RIGHT TO HAVE A SURVIVOR ADVOCATE AND SUPPORT PERSON;

5. Creation of URL to refer survivors to the YWCA in a timely fashion; and

6. Creation of the Ally Officer Program.
24 5. CHALLENGES AND

MOVING FORWARD
25 Challenges

1. The Department was not awarded the Office of Violence Against Women grant, which funds SAIU’s In-House YWCA Advocate. Not having a fulltime advocate assigned to SAIU will have an impact on our service model and the goal of providing timely advocacy to all survivors of Sexual Assault who choose advocacy.
– A Budget Proposal was submitted requesting on-going funding for the InHouse Advocate.

2. Currently, the lieutenants in SAIU, SVU, and FVU all rely on one analyst to supply data to make data-informed decisions.
– SVU submitted a Budget Proposal to fund an analyst in SVU

3. As the Department needs more dedicated Crime Prevention specialists to support SAIU and FVU
26 Moving Forward

1. SAIU will continue to partner with Crime Prevention Unit Specialists to provide Prevention and Intervention services to communities experiencing higher levels of abuse.

2. SAIU personnel will work more closely with all ethnic-based agencies (with an emphasis on the Asian service providers) to ensure that we have a more equitable approach to education and to intervention in those communities. 27 Thank You!
