SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF GIFT TRUST FUND DONATION FOR THE ALL-INCLUSIVE
PLAYGROUND AT ALMADEN LAKE PARK FROM ALMADEN VALLEY ROTARY
CLUB ENDOWMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a donation in the amount of $162,000 from Almaden Valley Rotary Club Endowment, a 501(c)(3) organization to the Gift Trust Fund to support project development for the All-Inclusive Playground at Almaden Lake Park.
BASIS FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The All-Inclusive Playground at Almaden Lake Park was approved as part of the fiscal year 2019-2020 budget in the amount of $1,343,000. A grant of $671,250 (50% match) was awarded by the County of Santa Clara under the All-Inclusive Playground Grant. The Mayor’s June Budget Message for fiscal year 2021- 2022 appropriated an additional $268,000 to install resilient surfacing and improve the restroom building, providing a total project budget of $1,611,000.
The Almaden Valley Rotary Club Endowment (Rotary) has partnered with the City of San José (City) to fundraise for the All-Inclusive Playground at Almaden Lake Park. Fundraising will supplement the City’s existing resources to deliver the project. As of January 2022, Rotary has raised $162,000 and intends to contribute to the project via the Gift Trust Fund, providing a total project budget of $1,773,000. These funds will be unrestricted for project development. The funds will be appropriated as part of the year end process into the existing project appropriation in the Gift Trust Fund.
