SUBJECT: UPDATE TO THE JANUARY – JUNE TRANSPORTATION AND
ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE WORK PLAN
RECOMMENDATION
Approve an amendment to the January – June 2022 Transportation and Environment Committee Work Plan to drop the following item from the May 2, 2022 meeting:
Residential Garbage and Recycling Rates Report
Purpose: Provide a report on Residential Garbage and Recycling rates. (Environmental Services)
BACKGROUND
Environmental Services staff are in the process of planning for a Larger Garbage Cart pilot, expected to launch summer 2022. This pilot will provide larger garbage carts to approximately 5,000 single-family homes to measure effects on reducing contamination in recycling carts. Because recycling contamination levels affect contract expenditures, the information obtained from the pilot would be crucial in any evaluations of potential changes to the Residential Garbage and Recycling rate structure and any associated program changes. Final pilot information is not expected until early 2023. Therefore, the Environmental Services Department requests to drop this item from the current workplan, with the expectation of adding it to the FY 2022-2023 Committee Workplan for Spring 2023.
