The parking garage on Market still has access, and it’s time for our City to truly commit to making a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly environment, especially in light of all the vehicle crime this year.
Post Street is incredibly sad to see at any time of the day and week now. There are parked cars and little foot traffic. A once-vibrant street in an already challenged downtown is now just another place for cars to enjoy. This proposal prioritizes people over cars, something our City leaders have always been reluctant to do.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the closure of these streets has proven to really enhance the vibrancy of Downtown San Jose. Closing the street to vehicular traffic has allowed for more pedestrian activity and refocusing our public right of way on people first.
I would really love to see these streets permanently closed to vehicular traffic and allow them to be further beautified with the collaboration and work of CBOs and other community members.

Dear Rules and Open Government Committee,
I am a resident of San Jose, and I write to support Councilmember Peralez’s proposal for the Future of San Pedro Square and Post Street.
Expanding pedestrian access to shops and restaurants will draw more people downtown. Just take a look at the crowds at Santana Row. My family and I are once again spending time downtown thanks to the enhanced vibrancy. It's so pleasant to have some space away from the racing engines and blaring speakers, a space where pedestrians can feel like they belong.
Cars rule every inch of this city. Please give pedestrians just this one block! Sincerely,
Gregory Murphy

We need to be looking for MORE spaces to prohibit deadly vehicle traffic to open to community uses such as outdoor recreation and dining. This is one of the small ways downtown SJ can take concrete action to distinguish itself from lookalike neighbors and become a true destination.

Subject: Rules Committee - Item C1. - The Future of San Pedro Square and Post Street You don't often get email from . Learn why this is important Members of the Rules Committee:
SPUR believes the Al Fresco program should be codified in a way that is easy for business and property owners to understand and that streamlines the permitting process. Business and property owners should have the option to use an Al Fresco program that is flexible and costeffective. Given the popularity of the Al Fresco program citywide, it makes sense to move toward more permanent solutions. However, sending this item through the priority setting process has the potential to do the opposite. It might just kill the program.
We all recognize that Al Fresco continues to have value throughout the city; and although there is still some uncertainty as to what life will be like over the long term, San José has the opportunity to do things differently as we emerge from the pandemic. It is important that we not return to old norms, but instead support many of our small business owners by codifying an Al Fresco program that continues to facilitate outdoor community connections.
Please support Councilmember Peralez's memorandum. Now is the time to move forward.

Hi!
I wanted to reach out about the possible street closure, hopefully y'all are the people to talk to! I am the owner of Pageboy, it's a salon/retail space located at 30 Post St. We really enjoyed the temporary street closure, it was a huge benefit and gave us a lot of exposure we normally wouldn't have had. I definitely had some concerns about the aesthetic, but totally understood everyone's need to throw it together. I have been talking a bunch with Eric from 55 and Flo from Mac's about how to make a permanent closure happen. If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a meeting, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you so much,

Dear Rules and Open Government Committee,
I am writing to you in support of Councilmember Peralez’s proposal on the Future of San Pedro Square and Post Street.
We should make more of our city walkable and bike-able. Post Street was amazing when it was full of people eating, drinking and having fun. San Pedro Street is much nicer now than it was during the pandemic. I don’t want to lose this.
San Jose could be like Barcelona! We have the right weather, there’s good food and nightlife.
But our car-first city doesn’t make it easy.
Please bring back more of these pedestrian and bike affordances - I want a San Jose that’s friendly to people, rather than cars!
Cheers,
John Rowe

Dear Rules and Open Government Committee,
I am writing to you in support of Councilmember Peralez’s proposal on the Future of San Pedro Square and Post Street. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the closure of these streets have proven to not only be a lifeline to our local businesses but also enhanced the vibrancy of Downtown San Jose.
Closing the street to vehicular traffic has allowed for more pedestrian activity and refocusing our public right of ways on people first. I ask that you approve Councilmember Peralez’s request to agendize his proposal for City Council discussion. Thank you! I live in the Naglee Park neighborhood and I LOVE the changes downtown with the streets closed.
Having these streets closed permanently will make downtown San Jose so much better and more attractive for people. I really hope that this will pass.
Sincerely,
