ROGC: 4/20/2022
ITEM: B.5
TO: RULES & OPEN GOVERNMENT FROM: Councilmember Raul Peralez COMMITTEE Councilmember Sylvia Arenas
SUBJECT: SEE BELOW DATE: April 14, 2022
____________________________________________________________ Approved by: Date: 04/14/22
____________________________________________________________ SUBJECT: AGENDIZE SAN JOSÉ YOUTH COMMISSION REPORT TO THE

NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES & EDUCATION (NSE) COMMITTEE

RECOMMENDATION
Direct staff to update the Neighborhood Services & Education Committee Workplan JanJune 2022 and agendize a verbal report of the San José Youth Commission (SJYC) by June 2022 before current Youth Commissioners term out.

BACKGROUND
We would like to commend members of the existing San José Youth Commission, led by Chair Nicole Hoang from District 3, who have continued to brave the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on their academia, all while working to advocate for our City’s youth. Under the mentorship of the San José Public Library team, the Youth Commission has accomplished so much and it would be beneficial for our City to publicly hear their work and achievements – as well as the commission’s future plans.

Staff should work to secure the virtual presence of the commissioners, if feasible, and be sensitive to their school scheduling when agendizing this item for committee.
