Subject: ADA Small Businesses
Dear San Jose Officials,
I am disturbed by these notifications about Small Businesses avoiding ADA lawsuits. The strong implication is that avoidance of lawsuits would be the only reason for making their businesses accessible to people with disabilities.
What about welcoming those people?! What about making it possible for them to frequent small businesses and participate in society in general?
I am able-bodied and I live with someone who is dependent on a wheelchair. I see clearly what a struggle everyday life is for someone who has limited mobility. Many of these people also have constant pain and limited earning potential. Why should they suffer the additional indignity and obstacles of being kept out of businesses by physical barriers.
Yes, I am aware that there has been an attorney going around suing businesses with suspect motives and techniques. Let’s make sure there is nothing amiss for him to find.
Let’s welcome people of all physical abilities to be a part of our world. Let’s not make the lives of the disabled any more difficult than they already are. Rather than an attitude limited to self-protection, let’s have an attitude of inclusion. Let’s treat the disabled as human beings, not as an inconvenience.
Let’s help businesses to comply with the important ADA laws, and let’s do it with acceptance and basic respect and a warm welcome. Let’s be considerate of others, not just because it’s the law, but because it’s the right thing Public Record: 1

Blair Beekman. Thursday, April 21, 2022......Viva Calle & May Day Celebrations. b. beekman < >

Dear sj city govt,
An item, I forgot to mention, at public comment time, at PSFSS today, Thursday, April 21st, 2022, I hope we can remember, that with all the community preparing, this is needed, each year, for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo, and May Day, in the next few weeks - I hope in respecting the cooperative efforts, of reimagine, sj city council, city govt staff, and emergency operations staff, can better learn - That as a guarded reservedness, may be needed - as always -
In the next few weeks, sj city govt. does not have to descend into, an over-all uptightness & impatience, in how to work with the everyday public, at the end of April, and in the first few weeks of May.
A good luck, to all of us, in the ideas of blending Viva Calle & the May Day celebrations, at the same time, this year.
It seems, an important cause & good practices, on this day, that all parts of the community, can consider how to work better together.
And that, from this day, we can all, possibly learn good lessons, of how to better police ourselves, with the minimal uses, of law enforcement, surveillance technology, and its data collection. for the long term future, of communidad de San Jose de Guadalupe. sincerely,
blair beekman
