I am an owner of a commercial property on in downtown San Jose.
I’ve owned it for the past six years.
I’ve been having many issues with people doing drugs near the light rail station As well as a few break-ins during the early hours of the morning. It’s happened to me five times in the last year and a half. I stopped calling the police because they told me there’s nothing they can do anyway.
The police told me there is not enough officers to cover the area.
I am requesting for the city to please help with adding more patrol boots on the ground.
Thank you so much.

Subject: June budget Yes, please revitalize the arts
Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
I am writing in support of the memorandum from Councilmembers Peralez, Carrasco, Davis, and Arenas calling for additional amendments to the Mayor’s June Budget Message. Specifically, Recommendation 2: Strategies to help revitalize our arts, hospitality, and visitor sectors to spur business recovery, job growth, and economic fiscal health.
Our local visitor, hospitality and arts industries continue to struggle as we adapt to deeply structural economic shifts.
As a community we are all fully aware that business travel, conferences and other parts of our local economy such full-time in-office work will never be the same as pre-pandemic. For these reasons we need to build new strategies to attract visitors from afar as well as our own Santa Clara County residents to visit and patronize our San Jose businesses, hotels and cultural offerings. Committing the City's Transient Occupancy Tax resources to this endeavor is a logical use of industry generated resources to help rebuild for the new future and lay a solid foundation for long- term success.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
Lita Kurth
Dear Council members and San Jose Mayor,
The Covid -19 pandemic has illustrated the need for us to redistribute resources, change policies and create alternative solutions to address social, racial, and economic injustice. We have seen a great need to address housing now via preservation, enhance childcare services, fully fund youth /senior programs, preserve historical places, and the urgency to support our youth to become the leaders of their schools.
SOMOS Mayfair and as part of the SSPC we would like to support the following items because we believe these solutions will create a more powerful, just and thriving East San Jose.
We strongly support the following items:
1. MBA #31 authored by CM's Arenas and Carrasco- the expansion of City of San José preschool, afterschool and other recreational programming opportunities at school sites to increase access for low- income, vulnerable students.
a. Childcare is a fundamental service we must provide. Youth are in dire need of recreational and youth development opportunities that are fully funded for them to thrive.
2. W e would like the inclusion of BD #75 in the FY 2022-23 City of San José Budget. Transforming School Cultures will set the foundation for a long-term system and culture shift at key school sites within the East Side Union High School District – helping bridge the expertise of teachers, administrators, and students to advance a districtwide Equity Agenda. a. We should support youth to build and sustain the school culture they envision by identifying and implementing strategies that maximize limited time and resources.
b. We hope that in the future we can increase support for Alum Rock School families as well.
3. We support the mayor’s call to action to Preserve the Chavez Home and increase Park Access for Native American Tribes Land acknowledgements.
a. We believe that preserving the Chavez Home is a critical action we must take. We hope you can support Amigos De
Guadalupe in having complete control of the home
b. We believe Native American tribes, including communities that come from Native Americans like Mexicans/Chicanos, should have access to public lands without having to pay a toll, a tax or fees in their own land.
4. We support the budget items brought forward by CM member Carrasco (Funding for the Virginia Street Land Trust Apartments, East Side Business Manager, East Side Citrus Grove, Emma Prusch Farm Park Electrical Improvement, Senior Services Strategic Plan, Alum Rock Cultural District, and Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley)
a. We believe the housing stock we need is already in our backyards and acquisition of homes/apartments like the Virginian Apartments is the most sustainable way to prevent displacement, increase affordability and address the urgent need for housing. SOMOS is working on increasing the preservation, acquisition and development of new cooperative housing and alternative models in East San Jose.
5. As stated on Monday June 13th, 2022, City Hall Meeting we also support the following demands by community advocates:
● Increase to Library Services, including a library in
Mayfair
● The REAL Coalition Demands
● The creation of an Essential Workers Council
● Funding for The African American Cultural Center
● Funding for Promotora Models
● Health Care Expansion for Reproductive Rights
We hope that in the future we can work together to increase support, services and transformative solutions for East San Jose, Mayfair and the Alum Rock Schools region.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

• $115,000 for safety improvements at the intersection of Hedding and Bayshore; • Permanent closure of San Pedro Street and a one-year pilot closure of Post Street on weekends; • Repeal of San José’s antiquated and discriminatory prohibition on cruising, which would have no significant budget impact; and
• Strategies to help revitalize our arts, hospitality, and visitor sectors to spur business recovery, job growth, and economic fiscal health.
Thank you for your consideration!
