TO: HONORABLE MAYOR FROM: Sarah Zárate

AND CITY COUNCIL

SUBJECT: 2022 LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA DATE: August 16, 2022

CITIES ANNUAL MEETING

VOTING DELEGATE AND

ALTERNATE
__________________________________________________________________ Approved: Date:

RECOMMENDATION

Approve the designation of Councilmember David Cohen as the voting delegate and Councilmember Esparza as the alternate voting delegate to the General Assembly at the September 7-9, 2022 League of California Cities Annual Meeting in Long Beach, CA.

OUTCOME

This action will allow the City to have a voting representative at the General Assembly at the Annual Meeting of the League of California Cities (League).

BACKGROUND

The League convenes a General Assembly each year to approve resolutions for the organization.

Resolutions are policy statements that guide the League’s legislative positions and actions. For example, in 2016 the League adopted a City-sponsored resolution on traffic safety that forms the policy foundation for its actions on legislation. To expedite the conduct of business at the General Assembly meeting, each City Council designates a voting representative for the meeting.

ANALYSIS

Appointing a voting delegate for the General Assembly ensures the City has a vote and voice at the meeting for League resolutions.
