Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I ask that you join hundreds of community members and the Planning Commission by following the Planning Department staff recommendation for updating Transportation Analysis Policy 5-1 while rejecting the Alternative Recommendation that would facilitate development on Private Recreation and Open Space land. Send a clear message that one developer’s interest in one potential redevelopment project should not drive the direction of Citywide policy.

I object to the proposed Alternative Recommendation because it is inconsistent with the city’s General Plan and would facilitate development of huge parcels of open space without a community visioning process, such as is currently being provided for multiple other large parcels in San Jose.

The most immediate and obvious beneficiary of this harmful policy would be the owners of the 114 acre former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site, which presents an unparalleled opportunity to gain publicly accessible open space for local communities as part of a community-centered visioning process for future development of the site. If the Council would like to consider allowing this site to redevelop, the city should lead a transparent community engagement process to determine how the development of the site could meet the needs of its future residents, the larger community, and the city.

Sincerely,
Kathryn Zeidenstein

I really do not want to see this land developed because San Jose is already too crowded. We need to preserve undeveloped areas for our community and for the environment. I am also frustrated and concerned by the fact that rules are changed at the whim of our city government. Residents of the East Side of San Jose should be given information when things like this are being considered. East side residents are tired of city government making decisions which impact the East side without consulting them. This is why the elections didn't go as government officials thought they would. People are tired of the same old thing.

Sincerely,
Mary Redigan

Sincerely,
Lisa Menge

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I have lived most of my adult life in San Jose and I am VERY COMMITTED to protecting our open space areas.

I Respectfully demand that you approve the Planning Department staff recommendation for updating Transportation Analysis Policy 5-1.

Also it is important that you deny the Alternative Recommendation that would facilitate development on PRIVATE RECREATION and OPEN SPACE LAND. San Jose City Council must show that one developer’s interest in one potential redevelopment project should NOT drive the direction of Citywide policy.

I object to the proposed Alternative Recommendation because it is INCONSISTENT with the city’s General Plan and would enable development of huge parcels of open space WITHOUT a community visioning process.

This visioning process is now being followed for many other large parcels in San Jose. This process is critical to ensure that San Jose residents receive the benefits they deserve.

The OBVIOUS beneficiary of this FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE VISIONING PROCESS would be the owners of the 114 acre former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.

San Jose CANNOT allow this to happen.

The former golf course is an excellent opportunity to gain publicly accessible open space for local communities as part of a community-centered visioning process for future development of the site.

If the Council would like to consider allowing this site to redevelop, the city should lead a TRANSPARENT community engagement process to determine how the development of the site could meet the needs of its current and future residents,

the larger community, and the city.

Sincerely,
Rosalie Hackett

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Dear City Council I have lived in this neighborhood for over 50 years. Before you decide to let a Developer build please consider that on Flint Ave you have 3 schools with approximately 1500 students. Flint is a two way road so you can imagine what morning and afternoon traffic is like. You also have Mt Pleasant High s hook on Martin with over 2,000 students. Traffic in the area is very crowded. This open space has been cherished for years by this community the thought of apartments or Amy residential building would only impact the surrounding streets. Our hope was the Cunningham Park would utilize or expand their facilities keeping it a place for families to enjoy. Please think about the traffic before you say yes just to say yes.

Thank you
Sincerely,

Debbie Ramirez

Sincerely,
Manh Nguyen

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Other than the obvious (Traffic) please consider the green open space that this parcel offers to the surrounding community and wildlife.

The Eastside of San Jose on many levels is treated unfairly.

Adding more housing and more traffic is just another downer to living on the Eastside.

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Dear City Council member,
I am writing object to the proposed Alternative Recommendation because it is inconsistent with the city’s General Plan and would facilitate development of huge parcels of open space without a community input.  As a matter of policy, there needs to be a joint effort with all stakeholders involved to create the best possible outcomes. Without a thorough, transparent review process, unintended, harmful consequences may arise.

Please vote no on the Alternative Recommendation that was overwhelmingly rejected by the Planning commission and by the Community at large.

Regards,

Sincerely,
Bertha Torres

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Please, please, please! We need valuable open space to remain open space. Do not throw away this opportunity to allow the wonderful plot of land to benefit the people of the East Side area. Please do not do change the course until you have gathered info on what the desire of the community residents would like to see for this plot of land!! Don't rubber stamp for commercial building and/or residential building on that site. This is very important. Be a part of the solution!

Sincerely,
Adelaide De Medeiros

The East side does not need more congestion in this area.  This is space is suited to be an open space in our community which the east side doesn't have very much of.  For the billions of dollars the county gets from our property taxes, why don't you do something good for our community.  I don't have all the answers but purchase the property from the owners and do something constructive for this side of town.

Sincerely,
Fernando Martins

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I have lived next to this space for the last 50+ years. I've seen the changes around this area and firmly believe the quality of life is getting worse with each "open space" property that has been filled in with city type building structures including tract housing.

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I am writing to ask that you, respect the wishes of hundreds of community members, the Planning Commission, and the Planning Department staff, by updating Transportation Analysis Policy 5-1 while rejecting the Alternative Recommendation that would facilitate development on Private Recreation and Open Space land.

The proposed Alternative Recommendation is inconsistent with the city’s General Plan which was worked out with numerous community engagement meetings. Developing large parcels of open space without any community visioning process is a huge mistake that will reduce the quality of life for residents.

While we definitely need additional housing in San Jose, and need to ensure that city policy allows developers flexibility to build it, the interest of any one particular developer should not sway Citywide policies. The former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site is a unique opportunity to gain publicly accessible open space for residents, and is close to Lake Cunningham Park and the East Foothills, potentially making it a prime conservation opportunity as well. The land is located on a former wetland that used to harbor immense biodiversity and riparian woodland habitat. Any development on the site should include a city- led community engagement process.

I will most certainly consider the votes taken by my City Council Member and the Mayor on this issue when I vote in the next election. I implore you to listen to city staff, hundreds of community members, and the Planning Commission in rejecting the Alternative Recommendation.

Sincerely,
Advyth Ramachandran

The most immediate and obvious beneficiary of this harmful policy would be the owners of the 114 acre former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site, which presents an unparalleled opportunity to gain publicly accessible open space for local communities as part of a community-centered visioning process for future development of the site. If the Council would like to consider allowing this site to redevelop, the city should lead a transparent community engagement process to determine how the development of the site could meet the needs of its future residents, the larger community, and the city.

Sincerely,
Shekhar Krishnan

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I ask that you join hundreds of community members and the Planning Commission by following the Planning Department staff recommendation for updating Transportation Analysis Policy 5-1 while rejecting the Alternative Recommendation that would facilitate development on Private Recreation and Open Space land. Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
San Jose lacks green space and the east side is already crowded enough.  We do not need townhouses with little parking.

Additionally, this land is an environmental area near an underserved portion of the City. This land and the nature located within it, could be leveraged in an Environmental Education Program which would be easily accessible by these nearby areas and the Families and Children who live there.  Huge educational opportunity for exposure to Nature, the Environment, Science, etc..  A great opportunity to change lives!  If kids are exposed to Nature when young, it doesn't matter where their life takes them, one thing is certain: anytime they see that nature again in their lives, it will be seeing an old friend. And that is priceless..

Sincerely,
Keith Wandry
