SUBJECT: GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
RECOMMENDATION
Direct the City Manager to produce a Manager’s Budget Addendum that presents a funding plan to implement the remaining items in the Gender Based Violence Response and Strategy Workplan and determine the spending plan for the remaining funds of the $690,000 Sexual Assaults System Improvements Budget Reserve.
BACKGROUND
It is vital that the City Administration continue the critical work to address Gender Based Violence in our community. To that end, I have worked closely with the administration to develop and implement a Gender Based Violence Response and Strategy Workplan, which has been successfully creating and implementing system improvements that make a real difference in the lives of survivors and the public safety of our residents.
I appreciate that my colleagues and the Administration have been so supportive of these efforts to adopt and implement survivor-centered policies. However, finding sufficient funding to implement changes continues to be one of the bigger challenges in this effort. That in mind, this memo requests that as part of the upcoming Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Budget Cycle, the City Manager bring forward a Budget Addendum that gives the Council the option of fully funding and operationalizing the remaining work, as well as updating the spending plan for the previously dedicated funds.
