Subject: Gun Harm Reduction Ordinance I strongly oppose the ordinance To the city Council
I Strongly oppose the Gun Harm Ordinance that the city counsel wants to pass to impose a tax on gun ownership.

The City Council will seek to impose a tax on registered gun owners that the City knows will be challenged in the courts.

You want to tax your residence to pay legal fees associated with taking away legal ownership of guns , that they have the right to own. This is an unconstitutional attack on lawful gun owner.

It is much easier to attack lawful legal gun owners than deal with the criminals who commit those crimes.

It’s not the gun that commits the crime it’s the criminal that commits the crimes. You are trying to tax the lawful citizen who wants to protect his family. I am sure that the criminal who lives in San Jose will tell the city they own a gun will tell the city so that he can pay the Tax. That’s right it is only the lawful citizen that will pay the tax. It’s just another attempt to have lawful citizens guns taken away.

Dear Councilmember Torres, Mayor Mahan and city Councilmember Sorry to bother but i am writing this in partner with Healing Grove to get the Washington Youth Center opened. I am a teenager in the washington community. It’s only open 8 hours a week. I don’t think it’s fair at all. A lot of little kids don’t have a place to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I would wish for the youth center to be open more often.
sincerely,
Perla Madrigal

Hey I’m a Latino Teenager from Healing Grove. I would love it if The Washington Youth Center  could partner up with Healing Grove. We’re a pretty big group and we need a place to learn and play. Recently they kicked us out and we’re back into the clinic but there’s not enough room for us. We would love it if you could join us and help us get them to open up the door, not just for us but also for the community.

Most of the room there are closed like the work out room. It would be great if it was open so we could workout in there.

Dear council member Torres, Mayor Mayan and City Council members I am writing to appeal that you partner with healing grove to get the Washington united youth center opened. I am a Mexican teenager in the Washington community. We need a place to play sports and do activities. We’d wish the youth center were open more hours of the week. I’ve done my own research and was that wealthier areas community youth centers are open from about 50-60 hours per week when my youth center is not open most of the time. Even showing up and they don’t even have open doors for us. Our community might be low income but we should still be able to access our youth center. We’d like to access the gym for sports, activities in the multipurpose rooms and the game room to play pool and video games.

Sincerely,
Rigoberto

Council members:

My name is Jeremy Ilang, a Silicon Valley tech worker, urgently writing to request that you partner with Healing Grove to get the Washington United Youth Center opened.

It’s evidently shown that nearby, “wealthier” neighborhoods have their community centers opened 50-60 hours a week, while the Washington United Youth Center is almost NEVER opened…this is an unfair treatment to the community with equal human beings, specifically children, wanting to gather for community.

Please take positive action in bringing change and restoring this community’s youth activities. These children need to be fostered/nurtured in this wonderful program, as Healing Grove has had an excellent track record in impacting this community, resulting in broader community unity, mitigation in brokenness, crime and etc.

Regards,
Jeremy

I am writing this to request that you partner up with Healing Grove to get the Washington United Youth Center open. I am a teenager apart of the Washington Community. We would like a place to play sport, activities, game room, multipurpose room to be able to hang out with others.

I've seen that community centers in wealthier areas are open 50-60 hours per week, while our youth Center is never open and only open for 8 hours. Our community might be low income, but we think we should still be able to access youth Center.

I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.

Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.

Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

East San Jose has a unique beauty unlike other parts of the city. Preserving as much park space is critical given how congested and overdeveloped.

There are limited spaces for outdoor recreation and this space can provide the necessary access to support health and recreational needs much needed in this community Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. I is critical to consider the negative traffic congestion that will impact the entire Eastside community. Unless there is Freeway built directly to this community, it will not work. It is critical that you listen and work citizens that elected you to make positive decisions for our wellbeing.

As a mother raising her children in this community, Trustee of a local school district and homeowner of a residence located less than a mile for this space my interest in this space is to benefit our future generations as well as adding value to our entire community. The only way you can have input that will benefit the community this space it is located in is by involving those that live within the area and will be directly affected. Please select our proposed method for moving forward on this matter. Which is to:

Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.

Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.

Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

End the community's disenfranchisement by allowing us the opportunity too make decisions about land use in our neighborhoods. After all, it is we who will live side-by-side of any forthcoming developments, such as areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site, not you, except for maybe Council member Ortiz, certainly not the developers. This is your chance to support the City of San Jose's Core Values:
*Treat everyone fairly
* Honor diverse views and backgrounds
*Empower people to do their best
Protect the environment
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.

That area has a high density residential area already near Lake Cunningham Park. Many residents walk and bike in this area, The YWCA is also very near bringing many residents to the area. . Certain types of development will just add to the congestion, bringing more cars and pollution. There is no public bus service on White Road, Mt. Pleasant High School and an elementary school are in the area. How this site is developed must be carefully planned to prevent a congested area and its' potential problems. .

Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.

Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

I am concerned for the neighborhood about infrastructure like roads. Traffic concerns are a genuine issue in this neighborhood. Some oversight of the developer would be most beneficial to the project. Developer just wants to make a profit.

To: City Clerk <[email protected]>
Dear San José,
Caltrans just released the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023-24 Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Application Guide and Call for Applications. Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2023. The grant awards will be announced this summer 2023.

This year's grant program includes a one-time augmentation of $50 million in Climate Adaptation Planning grants to support local and regional identification of transportation-related climate vulnerabilities through the development of climate adaptation plans, as well as project-level adaptation planning to identify adaptation projects and strategies for transportation infrastructure.

Caltrans will be conducting grant application workshops to provide a grant program overview and review the resources that we have to assist with competitive application development. Contact the appropriate Caltrans district staff to request workshop information and draft application feedback. They can also help choose the best grant category for your proposed planning project.

Visit the grants website for workshop dates and times, the Grant Application Guide, application forms and templates, and Caltrans district staff contacts. And contact the District 4 Grant Leads, Becky Frank at and Stephen Conteh at if you have questions.
