I am writing today to request that the City Council appoint Ron Del Pozzo to the D10 opening.

Mr. Del Pozzo is a longtime community member who has demonstrated an ability to get involved and help create a better San Jose.  He has always been a person who will go above and beyond to help anyone who needs help and has had a positive impact on our city.

Having known Mr. Del Pozzo for over 20 years I highly recommend him for this opening.  Further, I am a 20+ resident of San Jose, most recently redistricted to D10, and know that Mr. Del Pozzo would be an asset to D10 and our city.

Thank you.

Jacquie Heffner

Hello Pam,
I am a resident of District 10, asking for your support in the appointment of David Heindel for the open Supervisor’s seat. I have served with David on the Shadow Brook Homeowners Association for the past three years. David recruited the entire team to replace the previous board that was leaving after 15 years of service with many loose ends. He was the driver for automation of the many tasks required of the board and led us to become a finally oiled machine so that we may all provide a smooth transition for the boards to come after us. I believe that the fact that he has no intention of running for the office in 2024 shows he is committed to be focused on serving the community without the distractions of running for an election. I urge you to support his appointment.

Sincerely

I am an active member of the community, serve as the Vice Chair of the Playa Del Rey Neighborhood Association, Founder of the July 4th Family Fun Day and Fireworks held at Almaden Lake, and one of the Founding Members of the District 10 Coalition.

I am recommending Dave because I know that he’ll be a fair and honest representative for the citizens who live in District 10. I met Dave more than 9 years when he and I, among twenty-five others, formed the District 10 Coalition to bring the community together. Dave has been actively involved in the group and has done an excellent job by listening to the residents and representing their needs when he is called upon to do so . As a volunteer leader the only currency we have is our reputation and sweat equity, Dave uses both to tell the story and support his constituents. I can’t think of another person who is better suited for this role than Dave. A vote for Dave is a vote for D10! Sincerely,

Dear Mayor & Councilmembers -
I live in District 10 and am very concerned that my voice be heard regarding your pending appointment of my Councilmember. The list of 24 applicants is so long that I feel you need to look for candidates who have current experience and success in bringing people together and working with local government. Please look closely at David Heindel, he is currently the Chair of the District 10 Leadership Coalition and one of the co-founders of the All District Leadership Group. His ability to work with leaders from all 10 districts puts him at the top of active volunteer leaders in our city. So, with David you get 2 for 1 - An accomplished leader for District 10 & someone who knows how to collaborate with others throughout our city.

Please vote for him to advance to the interviews later this month.

Thank you,

Dear Mayor Mahan and Members of the San Jose City Council:

I am writing in support of Wendi Mahaney-Gurahoo’s candidacy for the vacancy in District 10. Wendi currently chairs the City’s Library and Education Commission and serves as the Vice President of the San Jose Unified School District Board of Trustees, representing much of the city council district.

She is a community impact leader
with over 30 years of experience in advocacy, policy, and operations.

Wendi has a keen ability to understand the needs of those around her and is a forward thinker. Wendi is an exceptional collaborator and connector of people to attain a common goal for the best of her community. In addition, Wendi’s experience extends to government, non-profits, and private sectors.

I support Wendi because I’ve witnessed Wendi’s servant leadership and her ability to bring people together for a common purpose.

Passionate about being a public servant, Wendi has the ability to listen carefully and is very skillful in helping individuals find common ground when they are on opposite sides of an issue.

I encourage you to appoint Wendi to the District 10 seat.

Sincerely,

this is real important in my view

I would suggest delay of interviewing any
people
for District 10

I think, and maybe it happened or maybe
not, but the video if studied might show
things

this may have happened on January 24, the
worst city hall council meeting in history in
my opinion

the following is just a possibility and would
need to be proven out

just a hunch but I may have figured out this whole mess...

you can watch the video

hps://sanjose.granicus.com/player/clip/13576?view id=51&redirect=true&h=b40ef3647bfd0f5051b2d7847497373b

I think I figured out what went wrong in the process...

a person waiting to be called in the chamber to get the 9 questions ( each city council member and the mayor asked the same question to the candidates (30 minute period)

so, someone in the audience may have texted all 9 questions to a potential candidate waiting in the back to be called up to be interviewed

then if that candidate was say the 4 candidate to go and get interviewed

this gave the candidate one hour or more to prepare answers to the questions texted to the candidate by the candidate using internet and drafting responses which
if it did happen was unfair and unethical.

so as the candidate went through the same questions... such a candidate may have just read the
prepared answers (over one hour of prep) to the city council members and mayor and had an unfair
advantage for the candidate did not have to think of answers on the fly

I'd make a good spy

so, if the above is proven out, delay the
selection of the district 10 candidates till
this gets figured out better. it is as many

Hello,

I'm wring to you in support of Dennis Hawkins appointment to the San Jose City Council seat for District 10. You're no doubt already aware of his extensive past experience in city government and local elected office, both of which will help him make an immediate impact on the important problems facing San Jose. Given the short appointment period, I think his experience is crical!

I'd like to add that my personal experiences with him as a public servant and private cizen have been very impressive. In his me as an OGSD Trustee, his commitment to transparency & accountability were apparent as he personally facilitated public outreach sessions on difficult community maers (rather than hide behind closed doors). As a private cizen, I've been a witness to the praccal, wise, & even-handed advice he has provided to members of our D10 community on a variety of complex and difficult topics -- all without demonizing others. His personal integrity shows in the consistency of his public and private character.

In a me of increasing polarizaon in our community, it's more important than ever that leaders get back to the basics of good governance including accountability, transparency, and a commitment to solving problems. I believe Dennis will do the hard work necessary to solve the very real problems of homelessness, blight, & public safety facing San Jose. I hope he will have your vote!

Sincerely,

Steve Orton

Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers,

I would like to write to you to express my opinions on the appointment of the District 10 City Councilmember. I would urge you to vote against Wendi Mahaney-Gurahoo and to vote for David Heindel.

My experience with Wendi has shown that she is not engaging and does not have an appreciation of issues that are important to D10 residents. When she ran for SJUSD trustee, Wendi initially posted a message on the "NextDoor" App. When respectfully asked her stance on certain key issues, rather than engaging in a dialogue, Wendi removed the post. She won her SJUSD trustee position because nobody else chose to run.

During the school district's investigation into using school land for employee housing, the Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury identified some concerning aspects of the district's processes, including not properly disclosing using school funds to hire a lobbyist, as well as not following proper procedures for a potential conflict of interest of an analyst hired by the district. The school district's response to this report was incredibly disrespectful, dismissive, inflammatory and derogatory towards residents in Almaden Valley. Wendi approved this response with virtually no probing or questioning into the issue at all (she asked two unrelated questions and nothing else).

As Chairman of the D10 Leadership Coalition, David Heindel knows issues impacting the district well. He is fair, balanced, and engaging. Please appoint David Heindel for District 10 City Councllmember.

Thank you,
Greg Braley

Hi Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers,

As a District 9 neighborhood leader with decades-long close ties with District 10, I encourage you to consider appointing David Heindel as the next D10 city councilmember. I've worked closely with David in his capacity as Chair of the District 10 Leadership Coalition and have found him to be an energetic, knowledgeable and effective community builder. Under his leadership, the D10LC was re- invigorated, new D10 neighborhood associations were formed, and volunteer teams worked closely addressing several of D10's most pressing issues in a model partnership between the D10LC and the D10 council office.

David's resume includes significant relevant public and private sector experience. He brings knowledge of best practices from several municipalities including San Jose. For San Jose, he brings deep District 10 and city-wide knowledge as a volunteer leader, deep institutional knowledge as a former city employee (Redevelopment Agency), and lived-experience as a current downtown San Jose business owner.

Thanks for your consideration!

Subject: Special Meeng on Filling Vacancies in Council District 10

Dear Mayor Mahan and Members of the San Jose City Council:

We, the undersigned organizations and individuals (60 and growing), submit the following letter to you as you make an important decision for the vacancy in San Jose Council District 10.

In the 1970s, Janet Gray Hayes, the first female mayor of a major metropolitan city, spearheaded the effort to elect more women onto the San Jose City Council, earning us the historic moniker of the “Feminist Capital of the World.” Unfortunately, the City of San Jose is now one of the few localities that lost gender parity on its City Council after the November 2022 elections. And in fact, pending the outcome of tonight’s appointment there will only be three female councilmembers out of

10. We do not ask this Council to appoint a certain candidate because she is a woman. But we cannot ignore the fact that the 10th largest city in America lacks the women’s equality it once was celebrated for.

It is important for our government to reflect who we are. When women are represented at high levels in business, nonprofit organizations and the public sector, decisions are more collaborative, thoughtful, and effective. Our emphasis on the gender imbalance is not to suggest that balance is important for the sake of parity. Ample research has shown that as more women serve on legislative bodies, those bodies become more inclusive, and more transparent.

As the City continues to incorporate equity into its decision making, it is even more critical for women to have a seat at the table because gender equity transcends race, ethnicity, and socio economic status, truly touching our entire community.

We hope you will consider this during your deliberations.

Respectfully,

As the City continues to incorporate equity into its decision making, it is even more critical for women to have a seat at the table because gender equity transcends race, ethnicity, and socio economic status, truly touching our entire community.

We hope you will consider this during your deliberations.

Subject: In Support of Pa Andrade

Good Evening,

I am wring in support of Pa Andrade for the District 8 Council seat. I support Pa because of her experience serving District 8 families as a School Board Trustee for the Evergreen School Board and serving as the District 8 Community Relaons staffer. She has built relaonships with schools, neighborhood associaons, faith-based organizaons, and community members.

We need a Councilmember who is collaborave in their efforts to bring about results that benefit the families in the district.

She is ready to serve and represent District 8 and I hope that you vote to appoint Pa Andrade as the next District 8 Councilmember.

Thank you,

Purvinder Soor
