Subject: Susan Minorv 95139 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die- offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families in East San José and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

San Jose has very little open space left. It is important that we invest in and properly maintain our parks. My son's were cub scouts and able to fish at Lake Cunningham every summer as part of their Cub Scout camp. Years later I was very disappointed when my nephew's weren't able to fish when they attended Cub camp. It is frustrating that years later nothing has been done to clean the water in the lake. It is my expectation that this problem is remedied and youth will be able to learn to fish again at Lake Cunningham.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. Dear San Jose City Council

Dear San Jose Council,
Please consider investing in improving the water at Lake Cunningham. This park is beautiful with the exception of the lake, a bit contradictory since it's called Lake Cunningham. We love riding our bikes, walking, and running.

Every time we go around the Lake it's truly an eyesore, but it's worse than that. It is dangerous for our kids. The water sits at a standstill, with zero activity. This lack of attention to this park would not happen in other affluent areas, but it's been this way for many years in the East Side.

Do not ignore that cleaning the water and making Lake Cunningham safe for the community is a priority. Invest in the community. Invest in the children on the East Side of San Jose. Invest in safety.

Adriana

Stop destroying our communities. We do not need reckless insensitivity developers to invade our communities for profit. Our families deserve to keep the open space, not line the pockets of another greedy developer.

Where is the justice for our families?
Leave our communities alone. You do not live here and have no notion as to how these greedy developers destroy our minority communities.

Stop the abuse.

Subject: Susan Mendez 95127 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham

If the city needs money reduce or pause bike lanes. Bike lanes are necessary but is it as important as water quality at the park or money needed to repair potholes. Look at things that might be cut elsewhere like art at the airport.

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Clean water in Lake Cunningham is vital to the health and safety of citizens living in the eastside. Polluted , unclean water become a host for myriad of water borne diseases, and removes the lake from being a source of out- door recreation.

Lack of environmental equity is a sign of unequal justice in a society. Tax paid funds allocated by the citizens to provide clean water must not be diverted for other uses.

Governmental bodies are elected to represent the people. The council has no constitutional right to override the will of the people!
I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Please recognize that quality of water is necessary and rightful for all living beings.
