Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color. The water in Lake Cunningham is so degraded that swimming and even boating are prohibited. Residents of the East Side deserve to have this inequity addressed, and this funding will help begin the path towards improved water quality.

This $3.2M is the last remnant of the $50M in Measure T funds dedicated to environmental protection. Please do not abandon your commitment to the voters by taking away this funding and using it for other projects.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Mariko Conner

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die- offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families in East San José and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Our families here in the Eastside have utilized the park for many years, my sons birthday parties and family games were played there, rental boats allowed them to experience the beauty and nature of the park. After the years of neglect and our mishandled tax dollars it has become an unhealthy site that made it difficult to take my grandson there who has now graduated from high school and in college. We look to you who represent our City and who have the opportunity to move forward and transform a part of our district and city to a more positive environmental site with the Measure T funds allocated for water quality improvements that we had voted for. We ask that you use those funds accordingly.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. Subject: Tina Rivera 95127 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Please listen to us, sifting money away from ESJ is not balancing the disparities between the wealthy and poor.

That would continue to marginalize ESJ. Use the money as intended so that part can be used!

I have lived in San Jose for many years – long enough to remember swimming and enjoying quality outdoors time with friends and family. We need recognize the value of clean water, both for our community residents and for the many species of life that live – or used to live – in the water and park. I ask the City Council to be the guardians of these precious resources for all of us.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham.
