Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

I came to Lake Cunningham to rollerblade when I was in my 30s. I love the view and beautiful lake. I hope you would restore the lake with quality water so all of us can enjoy again. Thank you! I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die- offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families in East San José and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.

Investment in water quality is an investment in the environmental future of San Jose. If not now, then when will we ever tackle this vital task? Please use our valuable, limited City resources for cleaning-up our lake as intended by the Council's previous unanimous vote on this issue. As we often say about our personal health, there is nothing more important than our environment health!

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Improve our water, we deserve a nice open area with wildlife in our neighborhood! The lake is a sadly neglected resource that could be a jewel of a city park, with water-centered activities in our increasingly warm climate. Imagine a pristine lake for swimming, water slides, a clean beach, picnic areas with trees and lawn. This would be an amazing addition to our City, and for a reasonable cost.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham.
