Dear Agenda Desk,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color. The water in Lake Cunningham is so degraded that swimming and even boating are prohibited. Residents of the East Side deserve to have this inequity addressed, and this funding will help begin the path towards improved water quality.

This $3.2M is the last remnant of the $50M in Measure T funds dedicated to environmental protection. Please do not abandon your commitment to the voters by taking away this funding and using it for other projects.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Darlene Vales

Dear Agenda Desk,
I truly hope you will strongly consider protecting the following funds. I grew up in San Jose and when I moved to Chicago in 2003 I could not believe that the river was so polluted you were not allowed to swim in or touch it! Not would you want to.

Two years ago I moved back and am a resident of the East Foothills.

Finding out the same has happened to Lake Cunningham is upsetting and knowing that there is money earmarked for this is the responsible way to fix this issue.

Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color. Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Please clean up the lake.

I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die- offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families in East San José and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

As a resident of East San Jose, I implore the City Council to invest in our local resources for our current residents of the community, for future residents and for those who may venture to visit our community. It seems that by neglecting a resource now would not only reflect a decline in the interest of our region but I also suspect it would only cost more to revitalize our local resources in the future. Do not neglect us and do not neglect our community.

Be a voice, be a force, be understanding, of our needs in East San Jose.

Thank you,
Rachel Goehner

Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.

Dear City Council,
Please respect the residents of San José. Allow city-led community engagement for development of areas zoned private recreation and open space.

We the people, should have input in what happens in our community. Respect us as residents, tax payers and citizens. Thank you.

Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color.

Sincerely,
Nivia Simoes

Subject: Esther Chew 95127 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham

Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.

Esther Chew

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at yet another local lake. The water in Lake Cunningham is so degraded that swimming and boating are prohibited. Residents of San Jose deserve to have recreational lakes, and this funding will help begin the path towards improved water quality. All of our lakes, rivers, and reservoirs are crap... Cunningham, Vasona, Lexington, Calero, Guadalupe, Almaden... I'm afraid I'd get cancer from swimming or boating or eating a fish from any one of them. Please make them all safe for humans again.

This $3.2M is the last remnant of the $50M in Measure T funds dedicated to environmental protection. Please do not abandon your commitment to the voters by taking away this funding and using it for other projects.
