Subject: Ingrid Stewart 95122 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham
Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.
I walk the park in the morning with my girlfriend s for exercise.
We’ve noticed that the major storms as of late has created problems sometimes walking thru the park such as flooding and mud.
It would be nice that this park would be taken care of like at the parks its size.
The park in Fremont, I believe Lake Victoria is the same size and it is always kept up. They had music before the pandemic and have a water park.
Please do not funnel the funds elsewhere. We here in the east side deserve to have a really nice park like the one in Fremont
I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die-offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.

Improve the water quality at Lake Cunningham. It’s sad that this park is not up to par like other parks around the city.

Dear Agenda Desk,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color. The water in Lake Cunningham is so degraded that swimming and even boating are prohibited. Residents of the East Side deserve to have this inequity addressed, and this funding will help begin the path towards improved water quality.
This $3.2M is the last remnant of the $50M in Measure T funds dedicated to environmental protection. Please do not abandon your commitment to the voters by taking away this funding and using it for other projects.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
John Martin

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
Please do not take away the $3.2M in Measure T funds that was previously committed to improving water quality at a park located in a low-income community of color.
Sincerely,
Kristal Caidoy

Subject: Sally Duffy 95121 - Agenda Item 3.5, 3/14/23, Measure T's water quality funding: Lake Cunningham
Dear San Jose City Council
I am writing to you regarding an environmental equity issue. Do not shift funding that would allow the city to take a step toward improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. Further delaying any action would be a continued injustice.
I ask that you not shift the $3.2 million in funding previously designated for water quality improvement that would allow the City to begin a path to improved water quality at Lake Cunningham. This 50-acre open space is a vital resource for all San Jose residents and especially those in East San Jose. After years of deteriorating water quality and major fish die- offs, the lake was closed down, taking away open space and unmatched recreational activities for families in East San José and residents of all ages. Our families deserve more access to open space, not less. Our families deserve investments in water quality improvements. Our families deserve nearby access to recreational activities. Now is the time to begin working toward improved water quality, not time to shift these funds to potential construction projects or other potential uses.
Sally Duffy

Dear City Clerk City Clerk,
I’m a thankful and frequent user of many of the city and county parks and trails. I am so grateful to all who have made and will make the important decisions to preserve and protect outlets for beauty and recreation amidst spaces of ever-increasing density and, thus, anxiety.
Sincerely,
LINDA REIS

We have lived on the East Side for 40 years and my was able to take sailing lessons and enjoy that lake as it was meant to be used. Now it is one step up from a cesspool. We deserve more. Please do NOT take away the funding and use the money now to begin restoring the water quality of this once beautiful lake. If you can spend money on off road bike parks for a limited audience please think of all the people who walk and picnic there. We deserve the same consideration.
