Please state why you want to become a member of this Board or Commission including specific objectives which you would work toward as a member.
I believe that fair and free elections are the foundations of a functioning democracy. I believe that our local elections have recently become more contentious and competitive, and strongly believe the Board needs to help ensure elections remain free and fair. I want to help make sure that residents of San Jose understand how ethics apply to elections, and help the board monitor elections in the future to ensure that candidates and organizations are unable to skirt our election regulations and laws. Specifically, I hope to learn more about the processes for fundraising and campaigning that candidates and organizations currently use that might be opaque and unclear to the commission, or might be unregulated.

Considering your experience and activities in business, labor, School, professional, social,

I have studied and taken part in political campaigns in the past, and have seen some of the ways modern campaigns have changed here in San Jose.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? The board exists to help enforce and monitor elections. Youth Commission
In one paragraph, please explain your community interests.
Particularly, I am interested in fostering equity and inclusion in our community. I hope to achieve fair representation for all in our student council, activities, and clubs; and events such as these are important because they help our entire school community to be welcoming and accepting of all people—of any race or color. I also am interested in creating acceptance for neurodiverse individuals across our community.
Each person is different, whether that is in size, shape, color, or mind, and that’s what makes life and community so amazing. Diversity of the human race should be respected and appreciated, and I have spent the past few years promoting its importance. I believe that when more of us appreciate the uniqueness of neurodiverse individuals, rather than separating them as “special needs”, we promote a loving, safe community for everyone.

Please describe your experience in serving on a Commission or Board.
Out of 3000 students, I was one of 15 to be recommended to help lead the Student Equity Council and be involved in the Multi Tier Support System. This is because my teachers saw my interest in class for promoting racial equity and inclusion. In our biweekly meetings, I learn how I can help foster racial diversity through promoting more cultural festivals, calling people out on racial slurs and cultural appropriation, and hearing peoples stories. In the council, I’ve been working on a cultural parade which entails food, performances, and activities of Latinx and Afro-American culture in our school community.
This is important for our school community to realize that people of any race or color are accepted and welcomed. We hope to achieve fair representation of marginalized individuals in our student council, activities, and clubs.
Considering your experience and activities in business, labor, School, professional, social,
Commissions, Boards, or other organizations, indicate the experience, training, knowledge and/or skills which qualify you for appointment.
My experience in leading a 501c3 nonprofit organization as well as communicating with youth, adults, and professional individuals has taught me various skills. Additionally, I have learnt how to utilize many different apps like slack, zoom and calendar to send out updates and take meeting minutes. I've learnt to outreach to various organizations and keep track of weekly updates and assignments. I have important skills such as time management, leadership, and hard work which qualify me for appointment.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? The purpose is to support youth who serve their community through civic engagement and participation.
This includes making sure everyone in our community has equitable access to resources, education, and basic human rights. The Commission specifically hopes to support marginalized youth communities and support the standards of the San José Education Initiative Policy.

Currently working in Bret Harte Middle School PTA, I learned to work with the team while making sure parents are provided with timely information as I send weekly newsletters and organize parent education events.
Talking to parents and school staff helped me develop a great listening ear, ability to articulate ideas, sending timely information in a clear and precise manner. Being a Girl Scout mom & Co-Troop Leader I am responsible for organizing monthly troop meetings, coordinating cookie booths, picking up orders and managing sales. Girl Scout Troop leader is a team effort with a purpose driven by motivation and passion to train the girls to be independent and compassionate individuals. Currently supporting the Girl Scouts team towards beautifying a school garden project while helping them educate about native plants and bird friendly landscaping by using my experience as a biology major in high school and early college education.
Being born to a father who was a dedicated Lawyer and to a mother who had been always there for many struggling families, I have seen a life lived selflessly and believed justice results in being truthful in any circumstances. I believe in honesty, life long learning with passion and commitment.
What is your understanding of the purpose of the Commission? I believe the purpose of this Commission is to bring a fair campaign to the public by investigating violations and applying ethics and regulations to reflect in a transparent campaign.
