I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Subject: Urgent: Establish a Public Bank in San Jose
Dear Mayor Mahan and important city government officials, As a life long San Jose resident, I urge you to take immediate action to establish a public bank in our community. The recent collapse of Silicon Valley and Signature Banks has highlighted the importance of creating safe alternative banking options that prioritize the public interest and protect public sector accounts.
The current turmoil in the banking system demands a more accountable and less risky banking option for San Jose’s public funds. The profit-maximizing approach of huge corporate banks has caused significant harm to communities and the economy. We cannot continue relying solely on private, forprofit banks to prioritize our financial needs and values, especially during a financial crisis.
Public banks will be more transparent, safe, and responsive to the priorities of their communities. This includes investing in local small businesses, affordable energy-efficient housing initiatives, and green infrastructure contributing to a sustainable future. Public banks can collaborate with community banks Public Record: 4

I urge you to take immediate action to allocate resources and support for establishing a public bank in our community, as authorized in the California Public Banking Act (AB 857).
I am counting on your leadership and commitment to making San Jose a better place for all. We look forward to working with you to establish a public bank in San Jose.
Sincerely,
Hannah Laszlo-Rath
