Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Planning for development of this site merits a community engagement process reflective of the size and magnitude of the opportunity – a process that would allow residents to comment on potential uses without filtering by a particular organization’s priorities. A key step toward maximizing the opportunity is therefore for the City’s Planning Department to provide management, direction and oversight over the community engagement process, since the Planning Department would consider and prioritize the holistic and comprehensive needs of the city, the local region, and the community.
Sincerely,
Moises Mena

Personally, I advocate for the removal on non-native tree species, and use this property as a Native forest / grassland restoration opportunity. The City of San Jose needs to make a shift from non-native to Native trees as the priority. It has always been a fight to get City of San Jose arborist to approve planting Native trees. San Jose has a rare opportunity to restore the land, and create an urban oasis that will be a protected space for habitat & human restoration by proximity to nature.
Sincerely,
R

Dear Agenda Desk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City.
Sincerely,
Kristina Cunningham

PLEASE require a City-led outreach process for this project.
While additional housing is very welcome, the impact on the existing neighborhood but must be considered. Community members understand the community best and can provide critical input into maximizing the benefits to the neighborhood while minimizing the negative impacts.
Thank you,

Dear Agenda Desk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I came to the east side of San Jose at age 10 in 1955. I have seen the valley of hearts delight turn into a sprawling densely populated series of unkempt strip malls and a garbage dump for wealthier areas of our city. Letting a developer put profit over the well being of the impacted local residents is abhorrent! Please allow for residents to have a say in what the developer decides he wants to do with this parcel gem!

Dear Agenda Desk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I am a resident of San Jose in District 3, and I've been active in promoting housing decisions that benefit the community at the expense of corporations. The real estate industry does not have the community's best interest in mind. Corporations must maximize return on investment to shareholders--not the long-term investment in the community for a San Jose where everyone can live and thrive. That's why they fought the Tenant Protection Ordinance, updates to the Rent Stabilization Ordinance, and any policies related to increasing affordable housing. Their shareholders don't care whether or not San Jose needs another skyscraper of luxury condos instead of affordable housing, or if their rents for the ground floor retail are too high for the neighborhood so the spaces stay empty and create blight. They're required by corporate law to maximize profit, not community benefit.
This is why I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City.
Sincerely,
Cindi S
