Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Its past time that the City Council and the Mayor support what the residents of SJ want and NOT developers and unions. This lovely site should
be preserved as open space and able to absorb
CO2 in this time of climate disaster. Yes, we need
affordable (not market rate) housing for residents, but the City has lost most of its open space and places
for the people to relax and enjoy nature. For once DO THE RIGHT THING and protect this open space from development of ANY kind.

Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Planning for development of this site merits a community engagement process reflective of the size and magnitude of the opportunity – a process that would allow residents to comment on potential uses without filtering by a particular organization’s priorities. A key step toward maximizing the opportunity is therefore for the City’s Planning Department to provide management, direction and oversight over the community engagement process, since the Planning Department would consider and prioritize the holistic and comprehensive needs of the city, the local region, and the community.
Sincerely,
Erin Redfern

Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
As a resident who was born and raised within a couple of miles of this site, and now lives in The Villages, I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed CITY-LED outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.”
This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Planning for development of this site merits a community engagement process reflective of the size and magnitude of the opportunity – a process that would allow residents to comment on potential uses without filtering by a particular organization’s priorities (including those of the proposed developer). A key step toward maximizing the opportunity is therefore for the City’s Planning Department to provide management, direction and oversight over the community engagement process, since the Planning Department would consider and prioritize the holistic and comprehensive needs of the city, the local region, and the community.
It would be wonderful to keep this site as park land and run an overhead walking/biking bridge between it and Lake Cunningham, but I understand the economic and social pressures of the need to build housing. Let's keep a goodly part of it as open greenland!
Sincerely,
Mary E Martin

Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
The San Jose needs to do the Community Outreach about how to use the Pleasant Hills Golf Course, NOT the developer!!! I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.”
This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City.
Sincerely,
Susan Price

Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space. hugh scollan

Considering the size of the site I think it is worth while to consider its uses and development carefully. This winter we have seen the effects of climate change in full force which is another reason for the government to carefully assess land use not only for humans' benefit but also California native plants, trees, and all kinds of wildlife that use the vegetation. Large animals need space to move around to keep the species healthy. Corridors with natural vegetation support the movement of animals, insects, plants and trees; in short nature in general especially now that our climate is changing. Natural spaces help humans to thrive as well as it supports their physical and mental health. I doubt a developer would keep all these aspects in mind. I live close to the Alamitos Creek with natural vegetation and a bike and walk trail while other creeks in the neighborhood have concrete sides. Alamitos Creek is used by many people and wildlife every day. I was told it is still beautiful because the citizens spoke up to advocate to keep this creek in its natural state after seeing the others ones changed therefore I think the local government and population need to have input from the start. I wrote this last paragraph.
Sincerely,
Anna Spanjaart
