Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space but neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City. Planning for development of this site merits a community engagement process reflective of the size and magnitude of the opportunity – a process that would allow residents to comment on potential uses without filtering by a particular organization’s priorities. A key step toward maximizing the opportunity is therefore for the City’s Planning Department to provide management, direction and oversight over the community engagement process, since the Planning Department would consider and prioritize the holistic and comprehensive needs of the city, the local region, and the community.
Sincerely,
Rachel Martinez

Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
We would like to have a vote driven plan of what the citizens want in this space. We don’t need any more developments. We have already paved over the best parts of San Jose. We need open space. We need a park that has a play area, ballpark or soccer field, and dog park. Find a way to preserve the trees. We don’t need buildings.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” I, as an electrical engineer in the defense industry, personally support "partial" usage of this land for "low-or-no income" / "unhoused" housing because we need to get homeless people, as-well as those about to get evicted, "off the streets" by humane ways. As our "tech-focused" economy and tech-associated housing-costs have progressively moved our population into a two-caste society (the haves and the have-nots), we need to look at "the elephant in the room", resolve to fix this "problem" and quit "kicking-the-can-down-the-road.

Subject: Tim Zadel 95118 - 4/25/23 Item 8.4, City-Led Engagement Process for Pleasant Hills Golf Course
Dear City Council,
I join 1,100+ community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 114 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
This Pleasant Hills Gold Course site should all be park lands. We are woefully short of meeting the city's goals, and now more and more people will be crammed into this already overcrowded area and the city can't prevent it, so we need to devote as much land as possible to parks. We should have sports fields, playgrounds, and a great deal of it should be semi-natural land. That's what the residents need for physical and mental health.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

I've lived next to this golf course my entire life. Having that open space as a buffer has been a treat and while I recognize that change is inevitable, I would much rather the city and our community lead and have input on that change. I do not have faith that a profit motivated developer will have the best interests of our community, and especially the people that live next to the land, at heart.

It is important that we dedicate a substantial amount of this property as open space. It has been proven that open space has a positive effect on climate change. Also, consideration must be given to the how the development of this property will impact traffic congestion. For these reasons and many more it is important to include people who live in the community. It is our lives that will be effected by this development not the developer's.

We live in this community and as community advocate and tax payer, I am asking the city to listen to our community. We want a city staff lead process for the development of this land.
Developers come into our communities and destroy our communities. They have no clue about the needs of our communities and destroy our areas.
Stop the greed. Communities first.

Dear City Clerk Dear Mayor Mahan and Councilmembers,
I support the Planning Department’s professional staff recommendation for the City Council to “accept the staff report on the scope, outreach approach, schedule, and budget for a proposed City-led outreach process for the possible redevelopment of the Pleasant Hills Golf Course property.” This 115-acre site, zoned for Private Recreation and Open Space is neglected and not utilized by the owner for decades, and represents a rare and perhaps unprecedented opportunity for the City.
Sincerely,
Tammy Thai

Dear City Council,

A significant percentage of the former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site should be used for public open space. The community engagement process should be city-led, not developer-led. We need more public open spaces.

Development of the space will impact a major primary transportation corridor, White Road. This neighborhood is already a densely populated area, including a major park-Lake Cunningham, two elementary-middle schools, and Overfelt High School, as well as a branch of the YMCA. It is critical that the area not become over developed like an inner city.
There is limited public bus transportation in the area.

Dear City Council,
I join ~1,200 community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
There have been so many wonderful recreational spaces such as golf courses, roller rinks, movie theaters, family owned restaurants, schools, shopping malls, the list goes on which have been developed in San Jose.
I lived by Cottle ave as a child and was saddened to see to golf course get turned into a high density housing.
The golf course should remain open space for present and future residents to enjoy.
I feel like I'm caved in San Jose, as if I can't breathe.
Please have a city lead meeting in the community engagement not the developer. I am not sure why there is even a developer involved.
Let's keep children off phones, computers, and tablets, and get them physically engaged outdoors with others! We all will benefit from that.
Sincerely,
S, Orth

Subject: S Randle 95135 - 4/25/23 Item 8.4, City-Led Engagement Process for Pleasant Hills Golf Course
Dear City Council,
I join ~1,200 community members in urging you to use a city-staff-led community engagement process for any development of areas zoned Private Recreation and Open Space, including the 115 acre Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer. Please also ensure any future plans for this site include dedication of a significant percentage of the site for public open space.

making this open space will improve the quality of life for the residents, your constituents, in lieu of generating additional wealth for developers and worsening traffic. Please use a city-staff-led community engagement process for the 115-acre former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site.
Use a city-driven and very robust community engagement and visioning process like you are doing for sites a fraction of the size. The city and community should drive that process, not the developer.
